Ok, Well I looked, and found my yellow wire on my GEM (torque-on demand wire) and cut it and ran wires up to the front. The problem is the 4x4 still engages when the wire is open. Another thing is my keypad doesn't recognize my code anymore. I'm guessing I cut the wrong wire? I have a 98 so I was guessing the wiring would be close to the same. Any suggestions needed!

Ouch, man i was afraid something like this would happen.

cut it and ran wires up to the front
what does this mean exactly, did you wire in a switch i'm assuming??

The problem is the 4x4 still engages
my transfer case still engages but my front wheels do not turn nor does my light come on. Does your's do both??

When you say keypad i'm assuming that's the one on your door, i don't have any clue why that would have anything to do with it. Actually i do, all your interior lights and that stuff run through your GEM. It might pay for your to go to Ford tomorrow and ask them to let you look at the wiring diagrams for your truck, they should let you. I still have the pictures on my computer of the wiring diagrams for my truck, i have no clue if they would be the same for yours but i'd be more then happy to send them to you if you'd like. Good luck.

Happy trails!!

edit: here is the picture of the diagram that has that wire on it if it does you any good.

Man, I was worried about this also. That is why I have been waiting. Keep us informed, Good Luck.

Yes, lights come on and transfer case engages!!! Man, this kinda has me goin, I hate to think I might have done something wrong. Is that wiring diagram just for your 97?

Cut - Ran wires -> I cut the yellow cable and ran two cables up front to wire a switch. Never got to the switch jus connected and unconnected cables when car was turned off.

Cheers, Frezno

The wire coloring is probably different between the two years, that's all.

I dont understand what you mean? How could the transfer case engage but not make the front wheels turn? I dont really know how all that transfer case stuff works so fill me in. Thanks

98ford--i'm not really sure why it works like that but it does. The wire the i cut turns the power off to the front wheels, that's all. So i can turn my switch for the 4x4 on and you can hear the transfer case engage, i use 2lo all the time now, very handy for backing my 4 wheeler trailer up a little hill or something since ihave a 5 speed.

kinnish--what happens when you have the wire close, together, put it in 4wd and undo it, does your light go off?? If you get this to work right, you are going to have to close the wire again, turn off the truck and turn it back on to get your 4wd to work. I'm sure the wires are alittle different like Jason said. Will you be able to run over to ford and check with them?? I'm not sure what year that diagram is for, so i can't help there. Sorry man!

Happy trails!!

You can just put a relay on the heavy brown wire that runs into the t-case. Run small wire to a switch (on/off) on the inside of your truck. This is the one that engages the clutch to turn the front driveshaft.
