so i will post this in two different forums. mods, if you feel the need to delete one of them please do as i am not sure where to post because it involves two different modules.
now i am almost certain i know the answer, but in my old age i am getting confused when i go to order the parts.
i am wanting to upgrade the brakes on evil. its starting to get a little quick and harder to haul down at high speed (and i am not saying how fast either lol) from what i remember, 01-03 sport and 01-05 sport trac have larger front rotors because the spindles place the calipers up higher. i have a pair of spindles that i had pulled from one of those trucks i just mentioned, but cant remember which one, or year because i have had them for a while now.
i would like to do both front and back at the same time, but 95-01 4 door, and 01-02 sport and sport trac list different rotors then 03-05 sport trac. finding a kit for both front and back for the 03-05 trac is no problem, but the 01-02 sport and sport trac i cant find, and i have a stock 98 rear diff in the back. can anyone tell me what the differences are, or what is it my brain cant process.

Tim, from what I learned doing mine, you are right about the front rotors. But the rears I didn't find anything worth a difference to swap parts, besides the 3rd gen rear caliper being an improvement over the 95-01 rears. It didn't sound like enough of a gain for my use.

I still have 2003-2006 Crown Vic rear calipers(vented 12"(same as Cobra but bigger caliper)) etc, which will require welding a tab to mount the parking brake cables, and drilling new holes to rotate the CV backing plate. Those are a decent improvement, but the fronts are way more important.

The only main difference in the front brakes are the spindles, which do mount the caliper 1/2" out farther. The calipers changed but the pads are no bigger, so stay with the original calipers. Here's a picture of the spindles that I swapped for my 99, one is stock and the other is from a 4WD 03 Sport Trac. You can barely tell that the caliper mounting bolt holes are farther from the hub holes, on the left spindle there.

It's a worthwhile upgrade, but also get the best pads and fluid, plus SS hoses. Those little details are worth about the same as the 1" larger rotor. I gained a ton with custom brakes, but I haven't made time to fab a bracket to use the next caliper(Wilwood) to the spindle. I should this Fall, but you've read me say it's likely a $1700+ deal.

After looking at that picture I have the correct ones. I can tell by how the holes are raised up in the spindles
