so i will post this in two different forums. mods, if you feel the need to delete one of them please do as i am not sure where to post because it involves two different modules.
now i am almost certain i know the answer, but in my old age i am getting confused when i go to order the parts.
i am wanting to upgrade the brakes on evil. its starting to get a little quick and harder to haul down at high speed (and i am not saying how fast either lol) from what i remember, 01-03 sport and 01-05 sport trac have larger front rotors because the spindles place the calipers up higher. i have a pair of spindles that i had pulled from one of those trucks i just mentioned, but cant remember which one, or year because i have had them for a while now.
i would like to do both front and back at the same time, but 95-01 4 door, and 01-02 sport and sport trac list different rotors then 03-05 sport trac. finding a kit for both front and back for the 03-05 trac is no problem, but the 01-02 sport and sport trac i cant find, and i have a stock 98 rear diff in the back. can anyone tell me what the differences are, or what is it my brain cant process.

03-05 sport and trac have the larger front rotors
You already have the spindles
They use the same pads and calipers

01-02 tracs did not have this yet

The 03-05 tracs had disc brake rear, 01-02 were still drums

Does that clear it up or did I muddy the waters?

it has, thank you. now, not knowing what i have for spindles or what year i pulled them off from, where can i take a measurement from them to make sure i have the correct ones. also are the rear rotors larger on the sport trac's compared to the 95-01 explorers?

I am not sure about the rear brakes, I do not believe they are larger......otherwise everyone and their mother would be after 03-05 Sport trac rear axles
There are only two knuckles for the SLA IFS, the small rotor and the large rotor......so it should be pretty easy to figure out.

Your truck now has the small rotor
You are hoping the ones in storage are for large rotor, compare them!

I have some knuckles here I can measure off of? So we can see if your caliper bolt spacing is further away or not.

as mentioned, i posted in two different forums this topic. the other forum i posted in, a member put up a picture of both spindles. the ones that i have waiting to go on are the correct ones thankfully. the way i was able to tell was there is a hump above the bolt hose for the ones that use a larger disk compared to the ones that i have on my truck now.
also with not being able to sleep last night, and doing some searching i was also able to find a company that makes bolt on stainless steel brake hoses for second gen explorers

from this thread

after reading it however, i am going to call first before ordering. it seems like they may have a wait time thats not for the faint at heart

Here's the picture again of my spindles showing the two kinds for 4WD/AWD. See the distance between each of the hub and caliper holes;

I just measured the rotors I took off my '02 Sport Trac last fall, and they're 12" in diameter. It does have rear drums.

I have the 03-05 Spindles on my 2 door and the larger rotors. Old rotors were 11 inch, 03-05 rotors were 12 inch.
The braking is slightly better which really does help when trying to stop a heavy explorer from 100mph.
Can not go down to 15 inch wheels with them, but the stock 16s I am using work fine. Of course larger diameter wheels should work just as well.
I would love to see an even larger rotor capable of fitting on a 4wd 2nd gen, maybe someday we can find custom made knuckles or something.
