We're getting reminants of a hurricane in NY tonight so I figured I'd finally see if my Revos were worth the money I paid. I've got an '00 AWD so I figured with the addition of these tires I would be unstoppable. Unfortunately, every time I would hit a fair amount of standing water the wheel would jerk to the right just like my 11/32's tread Goodyear Wrangler RT/S that I replaced. On a wet road they are fine (so were my Goodyears) but the standing water / hydroplane situation is the real reason I got them.

Am I expecting too much out of a set of tires? I see other cars and trucks on the road that were cruising right along after hitting the same puddles I did meanwhile I was slowing down more and more. A Jeep Cherokee went past me like it was nothing as I was driving like a grandma as not to get into an accident.

I really thought these tires would cut through standing water and give me the control that I have been looking for, but I wonder if I'm asking too much? How does everyone else's tires handle going though standing water at highway speeds?

all i can say is i went through the same thing tonight on my way home from school. 45 miles on a 2 lane highway with huge puddles on the side of the road.

only difference about our situations is i miss my truck.. currently putting in a new engine so i had to use a 01 Mustange GT... i had to do 35mph where i would normally do 55-60 with my explorer. My 33" xterrains channelled water without a problem, and the 35" BFG's also seemed unstobbable in water.

*kind of interesting though because i had 32" Bridgestone Duelers, not the revo's, for a while and i felt they did excellent- probably on the same level if not better than the BFG's

I think you are expecting too much. There's no tire that makes hydroplaning totally avoidable. It's almost impossible to avoid. And believe me, the other cars feel it, you just can't see it on the outside (I worked with the DOT for 6 months).

I seemed to notice a decrease in hydroplaning when i changed from my 'plenty of life left' RT/S's to my brand spanking new Revo's...

I mean, you have a wide tire... its going to hydroplane. just hang on and don't do nothing sudden or stupid when its happening. My acura didn't hydro plane much but thats probably b/c it had a 205 section width, not the 265's i'm running now

my new nitto's are ALOT better in the hydroplaing section than my old falkens. Then again the new nitto's are directional so that quiet possibly helps out

I have driven two different vehicles with RT/S's, and I have to say that my last set of Toyo's did better on any pavement with 3/32" left than the Goodyears did new. I had no trouble with them on dirt/gravel though.

spta- Take it form a resident of one of the wetter states. Driving through puddles will affect any vehicle to some extent. Tires do make some difference, but the deeper the water, the more it will affect you. IMO, the jerking feeling has more to do with resistance from the standing water than it does hydroplaning. How fast you can go also depends on the sanity of the driver. :p

Well I guess I feel better. The grip on wet pavement is fine, it's just that sudden jerk that makes me nervous. I had such a loss of control when going through the large puddles.

My BFGs seem to do pretty good. I get the jerking too, but like its said about thats mainly the resistance. When Ivan went through(I think thats the one that put all the rain down here) I had a few cases where I was plaining but it was from me going too fast. I love to drive in the rain :D

yeah, forgot to mention that... the sudden jerk you're feeling isn't even the hydro planing... hell, hydro planing is the absence of steering feedback... the wheel just goes numb (if that makes sense)

you're just feeling the effects of plowing through standing water at speed

That's a good point. For lack of a better term that's what I was referring to it as. The wheel is fighting me and I have to hold on tight to correct it back to stait.

dont expect too much they are only tires i think every one has the same problem with puddles

yeah, you can't feel anything when hydroplaning...

I personally hate driving in the rain, especially when it's dark and those deep puddles sneak up on you. If I see a big puddle coming I can prepare for it to pull hard, but I've had a few surprises. I have had 2 sets of RT/S, and some Michelins and wouldn't say any of them are great.
