Guys,
How can I tell if I have 2 wheel anti lock brakes or 4 wheel anti lock brakes? I need new front rotors yet again and they are asking this question. I have a 98 Eddie Bauer with the 4L engine. Also are there any really good after market rotors that last longer than the OEM for rotors ?

TIA

Greg

i believe all second gens came with 4WABS

EDIT, the type of rotors doesnt matter if you have ABS or not btw.

I wonder why Advanced Auto asked if I had ABS. I believe there is a difference because the ABS rotors have a ladder looking fin on the inside of the rotor.

IT doesnt matter. Usually advance as well as others will ask these type of questions, and they eventually lead to the same part. As for the "fins" you see, those are vents. We have vented disc brakes on the front of our vehicles and solid discs in the rear. Be it ABS or not, we have fins on our front rotors. BTW my old non abs blazer had vented discs. These fins aid in cooling the rotor

Heres an article from stop tech explaining how vents work. http://stoptech.com/products/img/0605AeroRotorDataSheet.pdf

According to the Haynes manual -
"Some models are equipped with an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS). Early models are equipped with rear wheel anti-lock brake systems while later models are equipped with 4-wheel anti-lock brake systems."
The earliest date I can find under the Four-Wheel ABS is "On 1994 and earlier models..." So sounds to me like it's a good bet it's 4WABS.

I'm pretty sure all OBD-II vehicles have 4WABS

RABS is long gone

Open your drivers side door. on the side of the door you will see a sticker (the same sticker that tells you your color codes). my 99 X tells me right there. says something like 4WABS i think.

None of them ever came with just front ABS. Some of the early 95s came with rear abs, and the vast majority of them came with 4wheel abs.
