I got a mechanic to figure out my light wiring, in the mean time he hooked the scanner up and wouldn't connect with my 95 ex so he tried my 96 and it worked then tried the 95 couple times and said it won't connect, it runs great at 206k but said I may want to buy a new computer that it has to be going bad that it may go out unexpectedly but never heard of it. Should I buy a new computer for the ex? If so where should I get one? My local ford dealer said that most stuff for my ex I can't get from them since its old so don't know that they'll have one for me.

If the truck is running fine, I can't imagine there's something wrong with the computer. Didn't the '95 use some kind of ******* EEC-IV/OBDII combo?

It sounds like he isn't using a compatible scanner.

Yea, the 95 is actually an EEC IV computer. Meaning that plug is fake, it's not hooked to anything. I think you can check codes as you would on a first gen.

Oic.....I asked him if the computer was compatible with OBDI because I thought thats what the ex was and he said yea. He said that the plug at the dash was screwed up or more than likely the computer was on its way out that I may want to get another computer.

EDIT: There isn't really anything wrong with the ex I just mentioned about I thought it had a vacuum leak and that there hasn't ever been a CEL so he tried hooking the computer up to it.

The 95 is OBDI/EECIV and the connector is under the hood. The OBDII connector under the dash is non-functional.

Alright, thanks for all the input in clearing that up for me, I had no clue that the connector wasn't functional. Exactly why I asked, I didn't want to buy a computer if it didn't need one.
