i drive a 98 ford explorer xlt sohc 4.0 6 cylinder 5r55e trans. i think the one i have now is 130 amps.

i want to hook up a 2 15 inch subs, 1500 rms watts each, a 2000 watt rms amp, and 1 or possibly 2 1 farad capacitors.

can i hook up say a 200 amp alternator? do they even exist for a 98 ford explorer?

if they do, would i need new wires for the power distrubition? (don't want the old ones to melt lol)

thanks for all replies :)

so no new alternator? just another battery?

So you are using 2x 1500w amps and a 2000w amp, is this RMS power or some stratospherically high rated peak power on the casing of the amp, ie pyle, legacy etc. If it is indeed rms power you will need that alternator, 200 amps would be good, although I've seen a 240 amp model (mean green maybe?)

When I was powering my Goliath (A real 5kw amp) and a couple 4 channels I would still get a bit of dimming (~11v drops vs 9v drops pre-alt) with One huge battery and a 200 amp alternator. You're lookin at two good sized batts and a big alt minimum if you want to properly power this setup.

hey dave, so far, the stock alt on my 04' is doing good with my Goliath, i have 2 big batts under the back seats though, i plan on getting the biggest i can and still have good idel amps. probably from iraggi

Good to hear the amp is working out for you.
