ouch! Actually while out in Silver Lake two weeks ago I did jump my F-150. That was quite the rush. It wasnt 4 feet, but all 4 tires definately left the ground .
LOL Doh! I remember the first time I ever jumped anything, it was in my old Mazda truck. Scared the hell out of me cause I totaly was not prepared for the landing! It was a hard one too! Plus I had those big concrete bricks in the bed to get me weight for winter and when those crashed down what a sound! LOL
I still try to presure my dad into telling me where he jumped his Jeep when he was learning how to drive. It was on some street here in Denver but he won't tell me where.
Man driving off-road can be such a rush sometimes! Specially when your getting it awn!
I had the spindles w/ 35's on them and i didnt bend them even when rolling 3 times. I dont think they bend, if they did something was wrong w/ them to begin w/.
I don't know what else it could be. I brought it to two mechanics and they don't know wats up either the only thing they could think of is a bent spindle. Would the frame bend? All i know is when i landed it felt weird and soft like something did bend?
At first I was reading it and I thought it said 4 inches, I was like..big deal. Then I looked agian....FOUR FEET...sheesh!
If you have a friend that has an explorer yr close to yours take a measurement of the distance between the two lower control arm crossmember bolts. There is the front crossmember with the rack and pinion mounted to it and in the rear of the lower control arm is just one mount on either side. Check that mesurement. Last year a woman pulled in front of me and I hit her with my right front tire and the impact bent the rear control arm mount. Broke the spindle bracket in two and destroy the tire. The spindle bracket won't bend it will either crack or break in two. Check the upper control arm mounts. A slight bend makes a big difference.
Measure the distance between the tire and the spindle bracket on both sides. They should be close to equal.
The wierd thing was i didn't do it on purporse I have 2wd so i was gunning it through ditches so i won't get stuck well one of these ditches had a big lip at the end and then bamb i'm in the air. It was the greatest rush i ever had. But this just shows how i'm a rookie offroader.
THanks for the advice. i'll check it this weekend.
Looks like you did a number too it. About the frame, yes they do bend. I just got my ex back about a month ago from the dealer. Had an encounter with a big rock and bent the **** outta my front right control arm and the front crossmember. The total cost of the frame, new steering system, new control arms, new torsion bars, and a new skid plate was $6000. Just for a ball park figure. Good luck.
Well here are my solutions to fix this problem. I was thinking of just getting a custom coilover suspension done by baja performance for around $3000 and they'll somehow deal with the negative chamber and adjust the design for that or go to frame shop(if they exist) and have them fix the problem.
Frame shops do exist. After severe accidents vehicles can have bent frames so they have machines that will straighten the frame. However I'm not sure how many people bend their frame up. I think its more common to bend it either left or right. Good luck!
SCEXPLORER, did u do a SOA or just change the spring to trailmaster springs? u think it fits a 99 2wd like yours? got pictures of your rear spring pack?
did u purchase the front spindle separate? where? all i had seen is everyone selling it in a package with shocks and rear leafs. i already have ranchos shocks. u have a spare set? how much? have to find out who is selling spindles only first. u know who? thanks.
