If I built a similar set up for my 2 10"s like this would it sound good? I always thought subs needed an enclosure. If i were to just cut a piece of mdf to fit in the front storage thing in the trunk of a 3rd gen and used the empty space underneath it as my "enclosure" would I be wasting my time?

thats interesting, but if you do that and put anything in your trunk you can almost gaurentee that whatever is back there is gonna smash your subs.

well my plan is, to build a 1 inch riser around the perimeter and put a sheet of lexan over it in true pimp my ride fashion. Would the Plexiglas glass affect the sound?

Okay he didn't just put the wood down, he built the enclosure and put it in there. Unless you can get a perfect airtight fit with just a piece of mdf laying there (you won't when they hit) so yes you would be wasting your time. as for the plexiglass over them, yes that would affect the sound it would cover them up. get a grill like thishttp://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11615_GS+Audio+BG-10.html

That is a picture of my setup (in progress). You can click the link in my sig for some build pictures. I have since trimmed off about 1/2" of "side" material to allow for another layer of MDF. The subs will be sitting flush with the mdf, and no longer resting on top of the mdf. I will also be making some grills to protect the subs from any damage.

However, to answer your question....

No. While you are describing a free-air or infinite baffle situation, the area you want to put it will not work. Infinite baffle setups work by separating the front of the cone from the rear (like building a wall between the trunk and cab of a car). In the area you want to put them it's impossible to achieve this.

good thing i asked or i'd be building away like a moron ;) Thanks guys
