does anybody have a center console write up?

Im looking for a write up or a how to on how to install a 2nd generation console in a first gen explorer I have 94 and im putting a 97 console in so I need some pointers and anything i need to look out for.

i did this in my 92 when i had it

first prob you'll run into is the fit of it against the dash. On the passenger side it it will hit a square box that is in your truck, you will have to cut a small chunk off the center console to get it to slide up about 1 1/2 inches.. what i did was use a heat gun with a heat resistant glove and a butter knife and warm the knife up really hot and cut though the console plastic like butter.

after htat it was just a thing of drilling 2 new holes for some bolts. i kinda winged the hole thing...just remember before you drill check for anything on the underside of the truck so you don't put a hole or cut anything very important.

did you take your seats out to do this? i thought about removing mine for better access

no and i did't have too much problems with leaving them in....its up to u

I got my new console in but my question is what did you do about the gap by ther dash ? did you make some kind of filler panel to hide the space? If so what did you use to make it?

on the passenger side on the lower part if you push the console up as far as it will go you'll see where theres a part of the console that hits a box under your dash. I had to cut out a small square or the console. then it will push all the way up with the exception of a small little area on the passenger side that the passenger maybe able to see. but if you cut out a small peice of the console it will slide up to the meet the dash almost all around but as i said there will be a small area on the passenger side that just won't meet the dash. I just delt with it its not a big gap maybe 1 inch x 3 inch

Looks good Elite, wanting to do similar but hook up A/C-Heat to rear seats(see"console swap " discussion) Did you do this or just replace the stock console with a later model one? Thanks for a reply...

i just swapped consoles , i think hooking up ac/heat to the rear vents woudl be way to invovled though
