I have a 98 XLT, 4 door with the tape/cd factory head and factory CD changer but no factory sub....

If i decide to buy a factory sub whats the chances that there is a cable assy for the sub behind the panel already? is it easy to run a cable to the head unit and tap in?.....thnx....

It's not that simple. First, you need to get the receiver that is calibrated to the MACH system because that receiver comes with the amp along with a crossover so all the bass will go to the sub instead of the speakers. Second, there're no wirings in the back. If you want a factory sub, you will need to run a long lenth of wire to the back where the sub and subamp are located.

Here's my .02, get an aftermarket sub. They're a whole lot easier to install.

I bought a factory sub off eBay for $50 so I need to install it..I was just hoping that they ran the wires back to it even though they did not use it...

Why would they do that? It seems like a waste of money to do that to me.

You are going to have a very hard time using that sub. I know its not what you want to hear, but its true. If it came in the enclosure already then it is probably not a total loss. But the problem is, you need an amp and a place to run the wires FROM the stereo, and there is not a place on base system stereo's.
