i live in az i own a black truck and my hood and roof are jacked up looking they're badly sunbeaten wierd huh:D . On the hood is what im most worried about its sun beaten and has cat paw prints that are in the paint! The hood used to be a lot worse it was just a white haze, I used a 3M rubbing compound that i applied by hand and it helped a lot actually. I guess my question is would it be worth to by a buffer and try applyin more rubbing compund to see if it does the trick or shoud i just start savin to paint it. Thanks for any advise in advance.

Have you considered trying a clay bar?

Well, it'd be cheaper than a new paint job....

Just remember, don't drop the clay bar on the ground!!! The dirt that it picks up from the fall will scratch what's left of your paint!!! Not good.

$12 for the bar.... financially, it's worth a shot..... else you can look into just re-painting the hood.... since you're in AZ, I'm sure it takes a UV beating daily.

my96is the same way, my clearcoat is flaking on the hood only (black also), i am going to re paint it myself.

A claybar won't do anything for your hood or roof, it would probably help the rest of it though. The only thing that might save that hood is a professional detailer with all the toys.

dam i thought it would have a slight chance. Seriously before the hood was a 100% worse it was nearly pure whit and you couldnt see yourslef in it. I used the rubbing compound and you could see gloss in the paint, you could actually see yourslef in it. Then over the course of about 2 weeks some of the haze came back

Yea, I don't think the claybar will help either. It's supposed to take out contaminants, bits of foreign stuff in the paint, not shine it up or buff it so much.

You need to have it buffed--rotary with abrasive then finishing polish. It will remove the hazed clearcoat down to the "good" stuff. I'm surprised it's that bad. Usually that happens after much more time.

If it comes down to eventually painting your X, if I were you in your climate, I'd 2-tone it, the top portion silver with the black, then you have a colour that will reflect the sun, not absorb it like black does, what does everyone else think of that idea? :)

when I was driving an X I seriously considered painting my roof pure white with a Rhino-Lining-esque epoxy- it's durable as hell, nobody will ever see it from the ground, and it'd lower the average temp in the truck!
As for your hood, get some 3M rubbing compound and a good random orbit buffer and have at it. once that's done, hit it with some good Carnauba wax.

the rest of the truck looks great but your clear is shot on the hood and roof.
