Does the ABS module/brake pump have a bleeder vent?

I replaced the ABS module/brake pump but am having a hell of a time bleeding the brakes. I bought a self bleeder kit but cant seem to get all the air out. Any feed back or thoughts on this? According to the directions it says to start bleeding the brakes closest to the pump. I thought we were to start at the farthest brake from the pump?

I dont believe the 4 wheel ABS sensor ha a bleed port. You might follow the brake lines all the way back and see if the truck has a proportioning valve seperate for the rear axle. On the earlier RABS systems the prop. valve does have a bleeder and the valve should be bled first prior to doing the rear wheels.


The Explorer's with the 4 wheel ABS I dont think have bleed screw.

Sometimes it's best to start over if you cant get them to beed, I actually let gravity do a good bit of the work for the rear brake when I installed the new 4 disc master and new lines/deleted the RABS valve. Open both of the rear bleeders and make sure the master is full...

Then it was a snap to do a 1 man bleed on the 4 wheels..

Also bench bleeding the master helps alot, I have found it only takes 4-5 pumps of the pistn to bleed it, then install....

Why are you bleeding them? new calipers?? Did you get the rear discs on?

I did get the rear discs on a while ago. No I had a major leak on the ABS module and had to buy another from a pick and pull. Going snow boarding tomorrow if I can get the brakes to work.

Since I got your attension 410, I got a detroit in the rear and have never been had it in the snow. Kinda worried about it gettin squirly. What ya think?

You just installed a new RABS valve and you didnt look for a bleeder?? hahah look at the old one.

Detroit + snow = You willbe fine, HOWEVER you just changed your driving style.No power out of the corners, ESPECIALLY if its snowy.
YOu'll get used to it.
Make sure both rears are at the EXACT same pressure.

I assume you got a detroit easy locker andnot the gearless??

I belive the 4wheel ABS module is bled using a computer chip plugged into the OBD port. Not sure if first gens use this system, but for second gens if the Master Cyl or ABS module is replaced, a dealer/brake shop uses this tool to pulse the ABS pump and remove the air.

Figured out my problem. The replacement ABS module was leaking. It was leaking in the exact same place as my old one. Got another from a pick and pull for $50 and threw it in. Brakes work great. Just have a ABS light on now. Probabaly a stupid sensor.

410Fortune: It's not a Detroit EZ locker. I bought the real thing. Full time locker. The guy at the shop said he pulls more Detroit EZ lockers than he installs.

on my 92 the abs modulator valve was stuck open and i tried to replace it with a pick and pull as well! i couldn't get the air out of the abs unit and eventually had to take it to a dealer where they used a "power bleeder" to suck air out or so they told me. they said that the abs has to be bled by a shop since most DIY'ers don't have a power bleeder. when i asked what this power bleeder was (assuming just a bleeder that has powered suction) they weren't very forthcoming with details however. either way, i was happy to have it done. and for future reference, to have for replace the abs modulator completely is only $270 including labor... i asked since i've had mine go bad twice now and done it myself twice.... thought it might be worth looking into instead of getting brake fluid in my eyes for a second time =/
