Does the y-pipe have to be removed to remove 5r55e?

Please asap, dropping the broken trans out of my 00 X, should I be able to back it out with the y-pipe intact? The rest of the exhaust is already removed.

Edit: I might be a bit unclear, I'm talking about the piping that comes down from both manifolds into one pipe. From the driver side it crosses over underneath the bell housing of the trans...

It has to come off.
