Need some suggestions. Ive decided to buy the knoxk off magna flo high flow cats from flomonster ( not master) in 2.25" . I;m going to run that back in the same 2.25 size as stock hit a Flomaster 50 suv (dual 2.5 inlet X single 3"out). Attach 2.25 to 2.5 conectors direct to muffler. A 3"X2.5 direct to outlet. With 2.5 out the back. I put some thought into it I wanted to slightly increase flo and hp with almost no torque loss. Letting the less ristictive cats increase the cfms not pipe size. Why the huge muffler with little pipes? the larger the muff the less drone. with 3" out i think ill lose my back pressure and maybe become rice in a tin can. I hate that honda sound. My stock exaust is done. it worked for 200K its plugged up bad!

So anyways I need some help. I noticed the stock cats have like a turn as they connect the cat itself isnt straight? wtf ford. Most high flos done have any sheilding im afraid of heating up the tranny.
Has anyone tried relocating the cats 1st thing as it goes straight. That would require me to move the rear o2s 12" downstream. The wire can be extented but my concern is will the cpu get angry with me? Being the cats and rear o2s will be in a different location. anyone tried?

also I looked at these flomonster mufflers anyone tried em.... Im not gonna be the guinee pig

I have the 5.0 in my Explorer but in two of my rangers with 4.0 OHCs I ran an H pipe set up with Spintech mufflers and used dynomax bullit mufflers as resonators to richen the sound as to not get the higher pitch that came with the H pipe set up. I deleted the last two cats and welded new o2 sensor bungs into the tubing approximately 3 inches down stream of where they were from the factory and had no computer fouls. Im not sure how far you can move it before it trips the computer into yelling at you.

Being that I am going with a single out I dont see much reson for an h pipe. 99% of ppl who put an h or x in dont need one.
Why did you move you o2 did you move the cat too? Id like to scoot both down for piping reasons moslty

I got rid of all but one cat just at the collector. It still passed smog no problem. With the h pipe i gained 6 hp to the wheels on the dyno. My last ranger dyno'd 191hp to the wheels with 35 in tires

97' XLT only has one cat per bank as is... I'm triing to figure out if relocating the cat & rear o2s 1 foot down stream will cause any issues.

Do you have any specs on those thunderbolts? To compare tothe magnaflo high flows I had planned on. The price is right good link.

Ya I read that on the site too.... Wondering about quality never heard of em before maybe i might give em a try. Afboy do you still have the origanal 40 series on your truck? \ loud is good.... super friggen loud not. Dont want to cause a rukus. When someone with a good set up drives by I say nice.... Hate when The guy with the loudest most horrid tone is right in front of me (Hondas!!!)ruining my ride to where ever. dont want to be that guy you know. I know you change your exaust more often than your oil so tell what yopu have had and what were the pros and cons.... So didnt like the 50 series suv ( not delta) Why?
Being I have to change for maintenence /failure issues. Id like to get some upgrade other than just new. Gas milage and sound (tone) are my big goals. I dont have a lead foot I drive big trucks all day so I'm patient.. Dont really need more speed. Any help your guys can give is most appritiated. Also the stock cats are angled... ugg that goona job attaching to. and pics of good way to weld a straight converter in where the angled was?

Lol yes at one time I did. I am facinated by nice exhaust notes and was determined to get mine sounding good.

I had the Flowmaster 50 series SUV which was dual in/dual out 2.25". I didnt like it because it was too ricey sounding. I wanted something more deep and aggresive sounding.

The flowmaster original 40 series is very loud. The drone is very annoying too... and with an offroad Y pipe wow. Their website advertises if you want to hear it in and out then it's your muffler to get. With cats on it it was toned down, but still loud.

Personally out of all the mufflers Ive installed, the offroad Y with the flowmaster super 40 series is the best. Drone isnt too bad (thanks to Delta) and its nice and deep and aggressive. Deeper than the original 40. Not sure how it sounds on our motors with cats on it.

If you want to run an aftermarket muffler, and assuming you have the sohc motor, I recommend doing the following mod. Dual 2.25"/ single 2.5" outlet. This allows you to run a huge array of mufflers.

Run this, use clamps, and test mufflers out. I know this might be costly, but that's what I did. If you want to test the flowmaster 40 original, just get a thrush welded. Same exact thing.

As for the cats go, leave the stock on if you are keeping your motor stock. High flo on our motors wont do much. View this thread for more info

Ive ran:
Flowmaster Super 40 (Uncatted)
Flowmaster Original 40 (catted and uncatted)
Flowmaster 50 SUV (Catted, duals)
Flowmaster Super 44 (catted and non- sounded like CRAP either way) Ill give this muffler away free if you pay shipping lol
IMCO Extreme (Pretty much a original 40 but single chamber- loud) (Catted, dumped and with tail pipe)
Hooker Max-Flo (Catted and non-catted)
Thrush Turbo (catted and non-catted)

Oh and Ive ran those cats and a buddy of mine with a 5.0 stang runs them and they work great. Nice for the price!

Dont think Ive ever seen copper exaust what are the benifits?
I'm gonna pipe it myself. I'm not an auto mechanic, but my attempts to make something usefull to the world has resulted in me owning quit an array of tools.... Im equipt for gas welding (oxygen accetalene and hydrogen stocked) mig tig I even have a microwave I turned into a fine toucher. So the super 40 delta gave you the best tone. Ofcoarse im sure it was loud but do you think its the kind of loud that makes you an annoyance or did it walk the line well? Im in nj so I got to keep the cats. My stock cats have fallen apprt internally. My dodge b350 dooesnt get pluged in just sniffed so i dont need the cats on it. 360c.i. 2.5 from headers to muffler 3" out. ever try magna flow?

i got single in and dual out 40 series flows on my 01 sport eventually i wanna get true duals
