I went through numerous archives concerning the next bit of maintenance to be done on my 93 auto Eddie Bauer.

The previous owner religiously had the transmission drained and refilled, along with filter etc.

What is the best route to go to do this on my own, I've only ever done tranny maintenance on my TA with an m6. What fluid should I get, I only have a crate of ATF that I put in the TA in the garage :)

Cheers,

lbrowne

Dex/Merc III for the A4LD. it should be a fairly easy process to do

Just drop that huge pan? I thought I read of another method...

Exactly what should I buy, or is it just the fluid?

Does that apply to all explorers? The info in that thread...

In a word, yes. Fair Q though, but the answer is it does.

well except for the ATF type.... Mercon V was specified for the 4R and 5R series starting in 95.

I actually just found this post that has info from yourself in it. I think I'll go this route. tranny fluid change

Any tips? :) (how many quarts should I buy etc...)

get a case plus 3... only open the 12 in the case.... that way if you need to stop you can go quart by quart and take back any unused.

Is that line from the transmission the one on the bottom of the radiator on the driver's side?

How thick of a hose to get to plug onto the end, I would imagine it would have to be a tight fit.

Is that the only fitting I let go and let it pump into a bucket until the fluid starts coming out nice and red?

ttt for my last questions...

how important is it to change the tranny fluid and does it really extend the life alot. I read somewhere that its not recomended.

Hose size... I dunno,3/8? I went and got a 1 inch piece of several promising diameters and then went and bought the right one. Try that.
