Just got me a '91 navajo, and my dome light isn't working. I went today, and bought a brand new headlight switch assembly including the plug-in. After jumping the dome light over on the plug-in I assumed it had to be the switch. However the plug-in had loose wires going into it, so I bought both. Anyway's like I said, jumping the dome light over; works both the dome light and the light on the doors, but the switch (old and new) isn't working the dome light, door lights..........I'm confused I know I'm getting power to the switch and power going to the lights, but no LIGHT !! Anything else I should check???

ps.........I've searched this forum over and over before posting this ?, sooo...........any help would greatly be appreciated.

bad bulb?

nope,.........bought 2 new bulbs also, and it burns, when I "jump" it over...... Dome light bulb that is.....

well that is odd. i guess i'd have to see it to fully understand what ur talking about...

How'd you jump the dome light over?

made me a jumper (small wire that's naked on both ends) and put one end on the "hot" wire going into the plug-in and put the other end on the dome light wire going into the plug-in. you know the box with all the wires (9 wires, i believe) going into it. that's what I'm calling the plug-in. well, like i say, i put my jumper on the hot wire, and moved my jumper around to each other individual wires 'till I found the one that goes to my dome light and door lights...and like I say I'm getting power to my switch and power to the dome light and door lights, 'cause they all came on when I jumped it over. However my switch (both the old one and new one) isn't working.

Would those push button switches the door touches have anything to do with it?????

The door pins would ground out the circuit and turn on the dome light whenever they are popped out... Did you pull fuse #14? If not pull it and verify its ok..

I pulled and checked all fuses under dash, they're all good by visual insp.. However, their's a place for a fuse - in the panel, but no fuse is there. I don't know what it goes too because nothing is labeled. It is on the bottom left corner, underneath the gray flasher thing, and it's vertical.

BTW....the fuse box in my navajo is under the dash, next to your left leg. It's not on the side, next to the door hinge like one would think....

OOh yea, forgot to add...........I found a burnt bulb in the passenger side door light. Would this be a prob.?

shoot yea !!!! Thanks roach sp? I believe that's where that fuse is missing fuse #14. Thanks a bunch. I'll run out here and piddle some more. Thanks again !

Yeah man !!!!!! you the MAN !!!!!!! That was it !!!!!! popped a 15 amp in there and "Ding, Ding, Ding," lights came on and everything started working.... Thanks again I printed that off..........I had no way of telling what fuse was what.......and too scared to start gouching........Thanks a bunch. Too bad I went and bought new switch and plug-in's huh...lol........Thanks buddy.

Glad to hear you got it working  If i had to guess maybe the previous owner was working on the X or maybe @ a tailgate part and pulled the fuse to keep the battery from being drained... 2nd gen and up explorers can kill the juice by turning the dimmer all the way down, but no such luck for us 1st gen owners... I installed a toggle switch on the rear hatch so I can tailgate at the beach without worries...
