OK my dome light stays on all the time!! I went threw all the old post and tried it all but it did not help. I cleaned and lubed the actuaters messed with the dimmer switch. Slammed all the doors realy hard and don't know what to do next. If it is a switch in the door wich one goes first? What else could I try.

pull the fuse, this will solve it till you can figure it out

I would suggest just pulling the light bulb rather than the fuse since that way you aren't disableing other features such as the radio or other lights. If you have remote keyless entry. Press you lock button twice to get the audible confirmation. If you get two quick "chirps" then one of your sensors is open. Since your dome light is staying on, it will be one of the door sensors or the hatch/rea glass. The sensors for the doors are built in to the latch mechanism. You will have to remove the door panel to get to it to find the faulty one.

If you don't get two "chirps" then your GEM is probably freaking out since it also controls the operation of your dome light.

??

I have the dimmer switch all the way of so the lights stay off but then I have no dash lights. I found out today that the one touch window role down does not work and the doors do not lock themselves. I am going to get a switch tonight and try it but would like to know which door would must likely be the guilty party?? Thanks for the help.

I would think the Driver's door would be the most likely culprit. After all, it gets used the most.

With the additional information you just posted, it appears to be your GEM, not a door switch. The auto door lock, dome light and one-touch down windows are all controlled by the GEM. There have been several here that have failed. It is a little black box behind your radio, accessable through the glove box. Don't know the price on it though.

!!!

I found out that the gem is $167 ouch. I also found out today the windshield wipers do not work so I realy need to get this fixed. I will order the gem on monday and hope it fixes the problem. Thanks guys.

Check with Torrie ag Fordpartsnetwork.com. It will probably be about $20 less. He is a sponser of this site.

Your windshield wipers are also connected to the GEM. The GEM controls the interval timer. It is either a problem with the GEM or the wiring going to the GEM. I would look behind the radio to make sure the harness is still plugged in to your GEM. If it is, then you will probably have to try the new GEM.

More great information!

Interesting. I didn't know that there was one little expensive box that controlled all that stuff. Just in case I ever have to order one just what does GEM stand for? Thanks.

Dome Light

I have the same issue with the dome light. It stays on along with the other light in the roof line. The dealer has replaced two GEM's in the last two weeks. Demmer Ford had the truck for 2.5 weeks. Got it back last night, the dome light stayed on and the 4 wheel drive idiot lights flashed 6 times. Glad I bought the extended warranty, but it sucks that the dealer can't solve this issue.

Guys, there may be a simpler explanation. Fords are notorious for this problem and the source is the light switch in the door latch. I had the same problem on my F150 and '99 ranger before that. The solution is as simple as spraying WD-40 liberally in the door latch. Close and open the door several times to work the lubricant into the switch. That should cure the problem. (It did on both of the above mentioned trucks.) If this doesn't work, the switch is bad and must be replaced.

Good luck!
