Hello guys, This is my first post actually owning an Explorer.

Truck is a 98 SOHC 4x4
Mileage is 126,000

I am in the process of buying this off a friend (have not paid him or transfered the title until Monday) We drove it home Friday and ran great like it always does. Go to start it Saturday and it just cranks. So this morning I look further into the potential problems and without having the correct shradder valve adapter for my FP gauge I carefully check to see if there is any pressure in the lines at all. It is fairly minimal at best with just pushing the valve in with a screwdriver. so I check the fuses and they are good. I figured I could cycle the key and maybe build some pressure. Yep, that worked, the truck started after 5 key cycles and idles fine. Took it for a short drive and it seemed to run good. I have let it sit for about 15 to 20 min and it started fine again. I will check again in a couple of hours to see if the pressure is bleeding off.

It sounds like a a going bad FP or a regulator (but it idles fine so probably just the pump).

Am I on the right track?

Thanks
Chuck
