2005 Explorer XLT
Hi, I have a 2005 Explorer XLT. It has a keypad for keyless entry. I feel like a moron, but I do not know how to use it. It has 10 numbers, but in the book wherever it is mentioned, it seems like you are supposed to press only in the middle BETWEEN two numbers, so 5 or 6 would be the same press...as opposed to pressing the left or right side of the button. I found my code behind the passengers pillar, 56835. I cannot make it work. The first button I press lights up the outside of the pad, but the doors never lock or unlock...help please!!!!!!!

Each button is used for both numbers. So there is one button for 1 and 2, one button for 3 and 4, and so on. So to make your code work, you would press the 5/6 button twice, then the 7/8 button, then the 3/4 button, then the 5/6 button.

Once you do that, it will unlock the driver's door. Press the 3/4 button immediately afterward, and it will unlock all the doors. Press the 5/6 button immediately afterward, and it will pop the back hatch.

At any time, pressing the 7/8 and 9/0 buttons at the same time will lock all the doors.

Thanks! I was able to achieve partial success. the 7/8 9/0 will lock the doors. The code written on the computer module does nothing. There were two numbers on the computer module a 5 number combo off by itself, and a 6 number combo with a letter after it right below a bar code. The 5 number one is supposed to be the door code right?

Yep it's a 5 digit code. Try 53865. I transpose numbers all the time, maybe you did too.

The code may have also been changed at the dealer previously.. if the code doesn't work after numerous failed attempts I would assume that.

Where exactly is this code located, because I just bought this used and they didn't give me the code?

if you still have no luck you can go to a dealer and they can hook it up to the scan tool and get the code for you. it takes no more than 5 minutes and is insanely simple so dont let them charge you more than 20 bucks to get it. then once you figure out the code you can program in your own thats easier to remember by entering the factory code then pressing 1 then entering your new code.....wait a couple seconds and the doors will lock and unlock verifying that the new code was accepted. hope that helps

20 bucks? :banghead: I took our stealership a cut chipped key, and they charged me $65 to program it......

he yguys i'mnew to the forum and after some searching i'm still trying to find the location of the secutiry control module so i can try and retieve the keypad code. I've heard that it is on the module. I have an 2003 XLT and it is not behind the pillar on the passenger side. Any help would be appreciated b/c the dealer wants $60 just to hook it up and find the code for me.
Thanks

Hello,

Say, I just procured a nice 03 'splorerer....looking for that computer module that has the factory keypad code printed on it....you mentioned you found that thing? wth is that?

Thanks,

DV

Bevelman,

I understand that the keypad code is supposed to unlock the doors and let you in the car IF you leave your keys on the starter switch (the 7/8 9/0 combo works without leaving the keys).

So I would suggest trying your code with the keys on AND your windows rolled down...

Good luck.

What are you talking about? The keypad code unlocks the doors ALWAYS. You type the code, it unlocks the driver's door. Press the 3/4 button immediately afterwards, it unlocks all the doors. Press the 5/6 button immediately afterwards, it opens the rear hatch.

Once again, someone who doesn't bother reading their owner's manual.

Looks like someone hasn't got any for the last few days...

gsmaclean is right. It makes no different if the keys are in the ignition or not to use the keypad except for locking.

The only thing thats different with the keys in the ignition or not is the door lock button on the drivers door panel.
It will not let you lock the keys in the vehicle using that button.

The only way to lock the keys in, is to hit the 7/8 9/0 buttons after you close the door.
