door lock troubles

Since the day I bought my explorer the driver's side door has brought me trouble. Whenever I open the door when it's unlocked, as soon as I let go of the handle it locks again. Do all explorers do this? My dad has a 95' xlt and his doesn't. I had my truck in to the shop yesterday because the linkage inside got messed up. I've fixed this same problem before but I don't have time right now to do it because I'm working 2 jobs. So I had them fix it this time and it still locks every time I pull the handle... It works... it's just annoying... Any thoughts???

I dont know what the deal is bunt mine started doing the same thing a few months ago. It sucks. anyone have any ideas.

Anyone found a permanent solution to this problem? I've lubed mine and it works for about 6 months and then the same old problem again.

Where did you lube it? My pass side door does the same thing. It's been doing it for about 2 years now. I removed the panel and looked at all the linkages, but everything seemed to be straight and working correctly.

As I recall I just lubed all the moving parts including the lock cylinders. Both of my doors are doing it now so I was hoping someone had found a better longer lasting fix.

You guys are lucky... my driver door doesn't lock at all! I swear this truck hates me sometimes...

i'd rather it not lock at all than lock me out of my truck. more than once i'd start it at work, forget to unlock the other doors, and end up lockin myself out when i scrape the ice off of my windshield.

Had same problem(would not unlock) with the '97 doors I installed on mine. Removed the door panel,weatherseal,rear window channel,and then the latch,to inspect it.(have to also drill out the rivet securing the power lock motor to door) What I found after a couple of hours of trying to see what was or was not working, found a small spring stuck inside the latch. The lever that attaches to the release rod coming down from the door handle was not always returning to it's stop-assumed the spring I found was a return spring for it.Drilled a hole in the arm, and back side of the latch, and installed another return spring on the outside. Reinstalled the latch, and it has been working like new. Don't know if this is a common problem, but can see where it could cause intermittant lock/unlock problems ,depending on where the spring gets stuck.
