I am looking to buy new speakers for all 4 doors. I was talking to a couple of people and they mnetioned trying to put in 6.5 inch speakers instead of 6x8 because they will sound better because i dont need more bass besides my subs. I was wondering if the 6.5" speakers can be mounted in the doors, would they sound better than 6x8's. Any advice would be appreciated. I want to do whatever is going to sound best. By the way i have 2 12" Type R subs and a Kenwood Excelon 600 watt amp.

You will have to make a custom template either out of steel or 1/4 inch MDF. I installed a set of 6.5 in a ranger using an MDF template and they fit fine.

But make sure if you have a 2-way that the tweeter has enough clearance from the door panel, or you will have to do some trimming of the inside of the door panel.

If you got a sub already, stick with either a 2-way or separates. I would do separates in the front, with 2-ways in the back just for fill.

I definately recommend some 6 1/2's with seperate tweeters. Thats what I have up front in my X, but I didn't have to do any special modding to put my 6 1/2's in. Could be the newer panels or something. I have an '01.

I just put new kenwood 6x8's all around my X. They sound great and I dont have any problems with there being too much bass...you could always put bass blockers on them too.

It would be easier to fit 5.25" components up front. But I agree that you should put 5.25 or 6.5 + 1" up front and 2 or 3 way 6x8s in the rear.
