Hi I have spent some time reading all the treads in the Technician Tips Area and checked the 02 Sport which has the 4.0 SOHC as the marking on the crossmember state. There is little info on the vacumn routing diagram. Is there a DPFE control in the EGR circuit or is that some engines other that Explorer family.

I picked up some electrical cleaning spray, quick drying no residue. I presume a quick short squirt is all the is required to clean the wire. Shop where I got it said they're sensive and could be ruined easily.

Also it appears that if the air box top section is unmounted and behind the MAS hose clamp I could squirt either direction to hit the wires without having to remove the security mounting screws. This is the smaller airbox with a square filter. Anyone done it here.

MAP = manifold absolute pressure

what you are trying to clean is the MAS
or Mass air meter/sensor

You need to remove the two secirtuy screws to clean the hot wires effectively
A nice LONG spray from both directions may do the trick

dont forget to disconnect your - battery terminal for a minute while you do the cleaning so the computer can re learn the new readings from the MAS

Yes your EGR has a DPFE
No your truck does not have a MAP sensor, last one of those I saw was in 1989 :)

Ok I stand corrected. I've read that cleaning it may bring the milage back it its contaminated. MAS in this 2nd gen ehh... I see nothing around the EGR or lines it going from the vacumn line either. I spoted the solenoid in the diagram but nothing else. I am not getting codes but the scoop is the two vacumn lines going to it can collect acidic water and the fluid messes up the DPFE signal output. Draining the lines is the fix essentially. Yeah, easy said but to locate the little buggers.

dang my 02 SOHC is at the body shop otherwise I would look for you!

cleaning the MAS is something I do about tweice a year on all my trucks, dirt/buildup on those wires really messes up performance. Its a very delicate meter, the computer sends power through the "hot" wires and the incoming air cools the wires, the drop in voltage tells the PCM how much air is entering the intake, so some debris or dirt on the wires = in correct reading for PCM

I am 97% sure your 02 SOHC has a DPFE, but not 100%

Great, thanks 410Fortune

the dpfe should be conected to 2 rubber hoses them those are connected to 2 metal pipes attaches to the exhaust manifold

I saw something like that on the drivers side back of the EGR valve. Its different design that the pic on the DPFE thread I was reading. and mounted upside down. Hoses go down vertically. I doubt this implementation has the condensation problem the others have where they have to be drained.

Thanks

ya mine is set up like that i highly doubt they will need to be drained
