So I've looked through EVERY DPFE/EGR thread on here and can't find a clear answer as to where the DPFE is exactly. I am pretty new, but confident under the hood once I know what I'm looking at. Can anyone be an allstar and post a picture of the location and the best access point of the DPFE for a 2002 Ex XLT V6? I am very very grateful for the help! Thank you.

On my '04 it sits right on top of the EGR valve itself.

Here it is

#2 is what you are looking for.

I have the same question on the location of the DPFE sensor, but on a 4.6l...

Is it pretty much in the same place as shown in the diagram?? Thanks

I'm not sure. I only have the shop manual for the 4.0. Sorry

Great Diagram. Can you label the numbers on one for me? I have a code 171 and 174 (Bank 1 and Bank 2 Too Lean). The Service Department at the local Ford dealer said Mass Airflow Sensor, DPFE, or check the tubes and hoses around the PCV. I looked at several threads about the PCV including pictures, but none of them even looked like pictures of my engine. I have a 4.0 SOHC, 2001 Explorer Sport Trac 4x4, with a manual transmission. I found an airflow elbow hose with a gash in it near the front of the engine, but the PCV is supposed to be toward the rear of the engine according to the threads I read. Or was I reading it wrong? Anyway, if you could give names to the numbers on your diagram, it would help a great deal.

Thanks. Sam

I'm at work right now, but I will try and look them up in the morning. The view is actually looking from the passenger seat looking forward, or standing by the passenger door looking forward if you can imagine all the sheetmetal invisible.

Basically, you are looking at the back of the engine.

Is the component labled #1 in the diagram the EGR valve?
