My cel has been on for awhile now and when I was changing my oil on sunday I noticed that the DPFE sensor was melted quite badly. I replaced it and the hoses, cel went out..........Then the scary thing hit me.....Why did it melt???? Does anyone know of anything that can cause this to occur? Also after about 125 miles my cel has come back on. I have a long road trip planned for this weekend.....I need serious help.

I dont know exactly why it melted but when I replaced mine I had to replace the tube, the sensor, the regulator, and the egr valve to get my cel to go off. After cvhanging them I get better milage and it runs and idles better. Mine never melted though it was just plugged. It might have melted from the heat off the headers. Thats all that I can think of.

can a misfiring plug wire cause the cel to come on?.....I don't have a scanner and just got done spending a fortune on changing oil and filter, transmission fluid and filter, new k&n air filter and the dpfe......just trying to get some advice.

it runs awesome except for a slight hesitation at about 1500 rpm if you keep it there.

Go to an Autozone, they'll read them for free.

It'll most likely be your O2 sensors if they've never been replaced.

Go to Autozone and get the codes pulled to know for sure though.

thank you very much for your responses.

I do believe that a misfire can set the CEL off.

I can tell you for sure a misfire will cause the cel to come on. I went to Autozone.....read misfire. New plug wires and plugs.........problem solved ...THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED.....And the lurkers for moral support.....lol

whoah! same problem here - I was driving at a pretty consistant high rate of speed on I-75 last night, and suddenly noticed some mis-firing , and a weird baseball card in the spokes type of sound. I was a little worried since I was out in the middle of nowhere, at about 1:30am - so I crippled it home. Popped the hood this morning and saw that the two tubes on my DPFE completely melted off.

I'm just now doing some research, but so far it looks like I can get a new one for <$100 and be on my way.

yeah it was like $89.00 at the dealer and 4 or 5 for a bunch of new hose.....they are different sizes of hose too...two different diameters

What is the

¿What is the DPFE?

sad - thanks for the tips. Any idea how bad it would be two drive it in it's condition to pickup the part?

Nicar - I believe it detects pressure from the EGR valve and relays it to the computer.

thanks to karl_burns for his pic of the IAC

I had one of those go bad on me

I had one of those things go bad on my first Explorer. It went bad before I even bought it. That is to say the CEL was on when I test drove it, asked if they could fix it first. They said sure thing and that was what it was. EGR Valve presure sensor is what we call it at Auto Zone. They are bad about going out on those Fords. I have seen the CEL say EGR insufficient and or EGR too much and it be the EGR Valve Presure Sensor. That happened to my Dad's truck. But I have never had one melt on me.

Yeah, I just came from Auto Zone - it was called an EGR Valve Pressure Sensor - unfortunately they didn't have it in stock, nor did any other Autozone around here. Same thing with Discount Auto Parts. So I'll have to hit the dealer tommorrow and be at their mercy.

I had my DPFE go bad and for a while had no idea what was wrong.. I finally figured it out, changed the darn thing and now i get 50 more mpg!! Great thing to keep in mind. My hoses were pretty cloged. I just cleaned them out.. went to fordparts network and got it for $57 i think..

Okay, Need some schooling here, is this part just limited to newer generation X's, or does my 93 have this as well?, cause it sure doesn't look familiar. Thanks
