Not sure if this is the proper location for this question. I have noticed that when I put my truck in park, it drifts a little bit either forward or backward depending on the direction of grade.

Where do I start to look for repairing this problem? Any suggestions would be helpful.

That's normal because there gears in the drivetrain (ex: differential) are not fully engaged since the brakes were initially holding the weight of the vehicle when you put the transmission in Park. After you remove your foot off of the brake, then the vehicle will move a little bit until the slack from the gears are eliminated. Are you setting the parking brake? If not, do so. If you are, maybe your parking brake needs some adjustment.

very normal thing

Your truck moving while in park is the park pawl engaging in its gear. How it works is there is a gear that goes around the transmission Wichita a little "tooth" like object engages that holds the weight of the vehicle. When you put it in park inside it move the park pawl to engage on the gear thus giving you part, but its not aways lined up right and that's were the slight roll come in to fully engage it.

Ok. I see how it works. So the drift thing is only until the pawl engages the drive shaft. Thanks for answering my question everybody.

That's it unless that pawl gets rounded off and then it will roll away!
