Ok, the permatex aint even dried yet on my weekend water pump/radiator/heater valve/hoses replacements and here I go onto the next thing.

I want to change out my u joints on the rear driveshaft....the truck has 97k on her and I have a trip coming up & I dont want anything to go wrong that I can prevent....

I called a local driveline shop for prices to balance it, and I was told that my best bet was to replace it with a one piece unit ......i.e. no carrier bearing..Well, I seem to have a one piece already -- did he mean for 2wheel drives ?? He said then he could service my existing shaft....

It is $100 for him to "service" the existing shaft....

This includes changing u-joints, cleanup the spline, and check the balance......and running it to make sure it is "serviceable".....

I was planning on doing them myself with the help of an Autozone rent-a-tool....

Thoughts?? AM I better off letting a driveline pro do this??? Never did U joints before....I like the additional security of him checking the balance, but new joints will only cost me $40 and some time.....

I have that dreaded 65 mph shake and wondered if the shaft balance could be out....

what kind of shape are the u-joints in?

Well, I havent puleld the shaft to check yet...no signs of play side to side far as I can tell.....

Our trip is about 1,000 miles round trip so not that bad....but the trip is to the beach where we will drive some 200 miles or so total on the beach...so I want to be sure that the ujoints are fresh....
