2003 explorer. Windows and locks will not work on driver side door when driving lights are on! But, WILL work when dimmer switch is turned all the way down.

Also, on a recent trip, we got a "door ajar" message on the same door...but it went away.

I have read on other posts here that it may be a ground issue in the boot. Any pointers on the best way about getting into it and detecting the problem?

Anybody? Am I headed in the right direction?

you have to pull the door panel, sounds like a ground and when you turn the lights on your creating a short somewhere. Others have found 'issues' with those wires between the door and jamb. . .
There is a small panel around the door handle that has to come off first, then the window switch (check that while you have it out), to revel a screw then there is like 2 more.

i had a similar problem with my '05 and you may have a broken wire between the door and the front end . what you need to do is very carefully pull back on the soft rubber insulation that covers the wires and look closely. you might find it without having to take the door panel off if that is the case then just add an extra inch or two of wire and you should be ok.
