Drivers door power lock - doesn't work

I've searched through the site and came up empty. Working on my g/f's 02 Explorer Sport Trac the drivers door lock will not unlock or lock with remote, keypad or inside door button. I basically jumped straight to replacing the actuator and discovered after replacing it, it still didn't work. I found out both doors use the same actuator and open up the passenger side thinking there's a chance the only one I could find in town was bad. I was wrong, the new actuator, the old one out of the drivers door both worked on the passenger side when I tested it. I inspected the wiring in the door and found nothing wrong, everything is sealed up great. I've also checked all fuses as well. One other interesting piece (she brings up at the same time) is some time ago the overhead center console just stopped working. According to the user manual that came with the vehicle that and the door locks are on the same fuse, just wondering if there's something else in common in the circuit and the overhead was an initial sign that something was going bad. Any advice would be appreciated.

locks - might be the door latch issue

(each door doesn't have independant fuses, and you only mention driver's door, implying the others work)

overhead console - resistors melted off PCB

Hey, thanks much for the response. Actually I pull the actuator completely out of the door and just have it connected to the wiring harness and it doesn't work. Did the same on the passenger side and it works on the passenger side. So it's definitely something with the "power" coming to the actuator in the drivers door.

Exactly the same issue here any luck?

Reverse polarity wiring. All it takes is a break in one wire and it won't work either way. Did you look for open circuits.

I did not. Where is the best place to check the opposite end of the wires? Is there a pinout for the door jam connection? Where under the dash do they terminate?

I haven't done it yet myself, but would find proper wires beside parking brake and tap from there to lock motor connector.

Hey everyone. Having the same issue, replaced actuator didn't fix. Tested connector with multimeter while operating the button. Not getting any voltage. Is there a relay or circiut board somewhere that this gets it power from? All other door actuators work fine.
Cheers
Jeff

Lets see. You should get continuity between the wires AT the actuator connection end and chassis ground. The door switches reverse the polarity when the switch is selected for the operation. In other words, both wires to the motor are a ground when at rest. The switch breaks the ground on one wire and changes that wire to positive, spinning the motor. Switching the other way reverses everything making the motor spin the other way. I suspect a broken wire or a pulled connection in both cases.

Now, can anyone tell me how the locks work in a '92 Dynasty?

I plan on pulling it apart tonight will reply when I see an issue. Thanks.

Hi, guys I found the problem. Fixed it this morning. In the door hinge area is a connector with a 10 mm bolt holding the 2 halves togeather, took this apart then cut off the tyrap holding the rubber boot over the lower half. Inside I found the red and the pink/black wires, gave them a little tug and the red wire was broken completely in two. I had to pull the boot away from the door jam and pull out broken red wire(it was broken in the middle of the boot), fished in a new piece of wire soldered and shrik wraped both ends and good as new.

Found the same issue with mine. The large red was broken as well as a blue with red and a solid light blue. One was the speaker and the other was I have no idea.

I have the same problem and its been driving me crazy. I was set to order the actuators but now I'm going to check the wiring before I do.
Thanks!

Thank you for this. I've been having the same issue except that my drivers side power lock would lock the doors, but not unlock them. And my drivers side door speaker cuts in and out. Found the broken wires in the hinge and now everything is great! Thank you!
