'99 EB
Hello;

Somehow my 2 yr. old son managed to insert my drivers license completely into the CD slot. I have the OEM MACH audio (no changer) that came with my '99 EB.

I think if I can get the faceplate off I should be able to get to it. There are some square holes on each of the sides but there don't appear to be any screws in the slots.

I am sceptical to have at with the radio as I don't want to damage the console.

Can anybody help with any clues or pointers to audio service manual. From what I could find on the web the MACH audio system is manufactured by Visteion, however I found not service manuals, etc.

BTW this my first post so be nice to me pls. :)

thanks..

LOL, I'm sorry, this is like another "Herculiner on the Hootus" type of story. The others will understand.

I've only ever taken the unit out, not apart. Honestly, I'd seek some kind of professional help from a friend on this. I'd be very careful on not hurting that radio, Ford charges and arm and leg for it, though you can get it on eBay for decent. I really just would ask someone who knows what they're doing.

i wouldnt take the cd player apart, if you mess it up your screwed. Ebay stock cd players cost around 150-300. Not worth it. The holes on each side is to remove the cdplayer, you have to get the "ford keys" and youll see how it works. Thats only if you want to pop out the cd player

I would try pulling the unit out and tipping it down and hopefully it will fall out with some shaking. Or does it have a little flap on the slot?

The keys to get it out can be found at wal-mart for around 6$. you can also use a clothes hanger if you know how its sopposed to work. Like what was said i would pull it out and shake it up and down to see if it will fall out

Personally, I would take the close hanger, or a thin piece of wire that won't bend easily. Just bend it in two, possibly with a "hook" on one end, and work it into the slot and get the thing out. Unless you nail the laser it should not break, but there is a chance that the license did that already. Good luck with that one (kids these days :P)

It's actually pretty easy to take it apart and to get into the cd slot. First, go get the Ford stereo removal tools, (I got mine from Kragen Auto) which look like two metal U's. stick those in the slots on both sides of the radio and push them towards the outside of the radio while pulling it straight out. The radio should slide straight out. You can then disconnect all the cables in the back. Then undo teh two black screws on the sides of the faceplate, and pop it off. Then you can just lift off the top metal panel of the cd player. This should expose where the cd goes and you can pull out your id. Then you can just put it back together.

Try some tweasers(sp?). Thats what i use when a cd gets stuck in my deck.

I would try to shake it out first, if that doesnt work then simply pop the faceplate off, or take the top off directly. I would look at it from this point of view, dont worry about ruining it, it isnt like the cd player is working for you now with a license in it.

A good pair of tweezers or a long thin needle nose plyers may reach in there far enough to get it without tearing anything apart. Use a flashlight to peer into the cd slot and you may be able too see how far it is in and if it is reachable with previously mentioned tools.

Is there a cd in the player by chance? If there is, it may be sitting on top of the cd, and may help assist getting the ID out if you eject the cd.

Stick some 2 sided tape on the end of a credit card or something and try to fish it out.

Thanks to this Forum we prevailed !!!

Well I wanted to give you folks an update.... After all the great information received in this forum I mustered the guts to pull out the radio and not only get the drivers license out but fix the nagging "LED" problem.

Various methods to fish the card through the slot didn't really work. There is a row of hairs (for lack of better words) on the faceplate that make it really really difficult to see in the slot.

I made the hanger extraction tool as described in the forum and popped the top plate, which revealled the license quite easily. It was jammed a little bit but in good shape. Amazingly the CD still works OK...

thanks to everyone on the forum.
