So I have a terrible noise coming from my driver's side brakes. Upon first inspection, I thought it was the bearings. Ball joints were shot, tie rod ends were shot.

I replaced both upper control arms, lower ball joints, tie rod ends, and inner/outer bearings. After that, I got an alignment and tires. (all of this needed to be done anyways)

Still have the same grinding sound. The brakes look good, but there still must be an issue. I can only hear it at lower speeds, but that doesn't mean it isn't happening all the time.

I'm suspecting that it could be the rotors (maybe one is a bit thicker than the other), or the caliper (maybe it isn't releasing enough).

It doesn't seem like it is causing enough resistance to actually harm anything, it is just annoying and I don't like driving it like this.

This car has 230,000 miles on it, but is going strong. Any suggestions are appreciated! Also, this truck is a 2WD.

I had a similar issue and it ended up being that the axel nut wasn't on all the way and it was causing the caliper cage to rub against the brake rotor. Don't know if that is the issue, but you might check to make sure that you seated the rotor back all the way and the axel thread that is showing is very similar in length to the other wheel.

Grease up the guide pins, and places where the pads slide on the caliper mount, see if it helps. I had a similar problem. After a day of cleaning, and re-greasing, everything was all good, and the noise stopped.

I solved this problem and wanted to post it for any future searchers. this REALLY sounded like it was coming from the front, but on a hunch, I took off the back drivers side wheel to check it out. Turns out there was a piece of metal jammed up behind the rotor and the caliper, scraping terribly when the wheel turned. Luckily, it was inside of the usable part of the rotor, so absolutely no damage was caused.

Just a reminder guys, always keep an open mind and check everything!
