Hello guys,

Thanks to this forum, I've fixed the blower motor/blower resistor, reconditioned the multi function switch, and will have the door handle fixed when I get the part this week! Thanks alot!

So on to the issue, it's a 97 xlt and I bought it last week. I had to pull the driver's door panel off for the door handle, and i've just left it off until the part comes in tues/wed. Well yesterday it started another issue! The driver's window will roll down about three inches, at normal speed before it stops. It kind of balloons out the shell of the door panel when it's stuck too. I can't see anything in the way, and it looks like the tracks are in good shape. What am I missing here?! I'm going out to check the rivets like I saw in another thread, but any ideas would be helpful!

Actually it's doing this on almost all the windows, but they roll up fine at normal speed. Going to test the main switch now.

Can you rock the window(s) side to side?

Yes, and the corner (closest to the door latch) moves.....if I push down on it then it rolls down fine and fast too.

Check to see if the epoxy holding the bottom left of the glass to the u channel is still intact. If not, there is a thread on fixing it. If it is, the vertical channels are worn or the fasteners holding the window are loose- or now both.

I learned to live with it by pushing the corner of the glass when rollin' through the drive thru in my other Ex...

Got both the passenger and drivers fixed, I'll post up a writeup with pictures tomorrow!

I wanted to mention the fix to this, as it was a cheap fix. All of my tracks were in good shape, but I noticed when I took a closer look with a bright flashlight that there was next to no grease in any of the tracks, and what was there wasn't lubricating well in the 30* temperatures. I pulled all four of my door panels and purchased a can of white lithium grease, and used the straw it came with and carefully sprayed all tracks and moving parts on each door. I moved the window a couple of different times to make sure I got all areas as well. That was my test run to see if that would help the issue, and all four of my windows were back to normal (and still are right now). Just for good measure I applied a decent amount of the grease that comes in the tub with my hand into each track and ran the windows up and down several times before I put the panels back on.

Very good, well done. My 93 starting doing that in Winter of 2001 I think. I lived with it each Winter until last year, when a friend suggested greasing the regulator tracks when I had the panel off. The original grease in there wears away.

Once it sticks going down, it will need occasional reapplication of grease. The white lithium is a very good choice, it stays in there longer than many types.

Thanks!

Exactly why I went ahead and tore the panel off, I had just refurbished the multi-function switch which often fail because (drumroll)...the grease drying out and not lasting! So when I took a peek around it was a sigh of relief for another cheap fix.
