I'm driving along Saturday night and my 2002 EB starts having a horrible vibration that seems to be coming from the front left wheel. I pull off and investigate and can't find anything rubbing or anything (thought maybe a clump of ice or something). I keep driving with the vibration and it eventually all but goes away. I hadn't ever had anything similar happen so I take it into a Firestone Car Care Center on Sunday (dealership was closed). They diagnose it as the driveshaft beginning to fail. With travel for work I'm not sure when I'll have time to get it into the dealership. The Firestone guys, while obviously not as good as a typical dealership, said I should be ok driving on it for a little while.
Has anybody experienced anything similar? They said it was a somewhat common problem for this gen of Explorer (I've got 112k miles on it). I searched through a few threads but nothing sounded like what I was experiencing.
