i heard from somewhere that some years, or models of aerostars came with an aluminum rear drive shaft. can someone confirm that for me, and also tell me which ones had them. the reason being is, i have a 81 capri that i have put a 429 big block into, and want a aluminum shaft for it.

thanks corkey, to bad you need it for your van! length i don't think is going to matter for me, i most likely will have to shorten it anyway

well i also know that last week i did the ujoints on an f150 2wd, and it had an aluminum shaft as well, might be able to get one of those too ,,i think it was about a 2000 or 2001,

Every driveshaft I've removed from these vans was made out of aluminum, so I think every year had an aluminum driveshaft. The AWD version has a shorter driveshaft than the RWD version since it has a transfer case. The parts manuals specify different U joints for different years with different prices. I've compared these U joints, and can't tell the difference. Even their stamped code numbers from the company are all the same. The only difference was the part number on the box (and price). If somebody else has experience with interchangeable U joints, please let me know since I'm curious to know if there is any real difference between them.

thanks brooklyn, i know in my car i have a c6 trans, and i had the drive shaft my car came with from factory. the place that i got it cut down was able to match a u joint up with no problems to the trans yoke.

there are two places that are about a half hour away from me. one is called fort gary industries, and the other is called westrans.

I'm not sure if you would want to send them up. I live inCcanada

Westrans

Fort Gary Industries

They're both good. I use to work for a sterling truck dealer (Ford heavy trucks) and ordered parts from them on a daily basis. I got the driveshaft cut at fort, and they got me a u joint, and I know Westrans does driveshafts as well. I also got the transmission kit for the C6 from there, as well as the torque converter (it's a stock one).

Hello

I have read on corral.net about Aerostar AWD driveshafts working stock Fox body 5.0L Mustang. It also has Napa part numbers. Search that site, and you should find the information that you need.
