if you just use it while the vehicle is on it's pointless to have a second battery. Just get a more powerful alternator. But unless you are running a serious stereo you don't even really need that.

In most cases the second battery is generally wired to Auxiliary power sources that you don't want affecting your starting capabilities. But if you only run the stereo when the vehicle is running you are not drawing from the battery.

If you use the battery frequently when the vehicle is not running then it would be in your best interest to run an isolator with a standard starting battery and then a deep cycle to power your stereo so it draws from the deep cycle when off and not taking away from your starting battery.

The isolator is only useful for when the truck is off. It prevents you from discharging both batteries when using 12v accessories with the engine off. Also prevents both batteries from discharging when one won't hold as high a voltage as the other.

You don't need a second battery with a 130 amp alternator, at least not for any sane system.

I use to have 2kw of audio with the 90 amp alternator. Two 1 farad caps and lots of 4 and 2 ga wiring and the voltage gauge didn't move.

A second battery was in the plans while I still had all that in the truck though. I camp frequently and would kill the battery listening to music. I just kept the truck pointed uphill and dropped the clutch while rolling for a second battery though.

Just remember...if you upgrade to a higher output alternator than was installed at the factory, make darn good and sure you upgrade the wiring too so it can handle the extra load.
