2010 Mountaineer
This just started a couple days ago. I have a 2010 Mountaineer. Dual zone climate control. I'll hear a squealing sort of sound for a couple seconds inside the dash and then the passenger side will blow on the hottest setting while the driver side will be cold.
I read that a bad blend door would be a clicking noise but I do not get the clicking. Before I go into repair mode, could it still be blend door with a squeaking/squealing noise? Or are there other options more likely?

Anybody have an answer.. or update....

I have same thing..... no clicking noise.... just random groans......

I have experienced the clicking sound from a bad blend door actuator but not a squealing sound.

I'd say it's still the blend door actuator.

It's a $40 part, and a little hassle to replace.

Get a mini-mini 1/4" ratchet with 7 mm socket and give it a shot.

Any follow up on repair results? Have cold air only on passenger side. Dual zone auto climate on 2006 Limited. No clicking noises but did have some groaning noises previously. Now no noises and no heat passenger side.

Great! Going to order from Rock Auto today. Thanks!

I see this post has aged, but I too have same symptom 2009, EB, Dual Zone Climate Control ( erratically drivers side vent goes to HOT while in AC AUTO DUAL). Once it fails, it will remain that way until you turn OFF the car for a minute! Restart and then all will be OK for miles and miles and with no clue, it does it again! Clicking heard in pax side blend door motor. R&R'd, clicking gone, BUT the problem remains but clicking gone (no teeth broken inside removed motor???!!! ...very odd!!!). At a loss, I know assume the pax side blend door losses vacuum that is holding it in COLD position and somehow it looses vacuum and the door goes back to HOT position (by a spring???). I do not know what position the blend doors "default" back to when power is OFF....COLD or HOT??? Anyone know? I will probably R&R the drivers side blend door actuator AND continue to search for an air leak to (or inside) the vacuum solenoid on drivers side.

When I replaced my pax side blend door, it didn't have any vacuum line attached, just electrical. I always thought the vacuum only controlled the directional control for floor/panel/defrost distribution but could be wrong. Is it possible the door that gets moved is jammed and it stripped the gear on the new blend door motor you put in? Or maybe you got a bad unit. I've heard some are better than others. You might have to pull the new one and inspect the teeth. They just use plastic gears in there so easy to strip.

D HOOK, thanks for your reply! Yes the blend door motor has no vacuum lines to it, only electrical wires. It does have a printed circuit inside that sends a signal to the computer to let it know what position it is in. I replaced the pax side blend motor because it was clicking and yes I have removed clicking units before and they had broken teeth. This one did not, BUT it had way too much grease all over that printed circuit board and I believe it was sending a false location signal. The clicking went away yet the erratic change from COLD to HOT on drivers side continues! There ARE TWO vacuum solenoids (little cans) attached to the blend doors, one on pax and one on drivers side that pull the blend doors to COLD it appears. I assume they get their signal to do so from the computer which ties back into the position sensing that goes on inside the blend door motors. I do not know if springs move the blend door OR a spring OR both when the ignition is turned off??? I can hear the doors move when the ignition is turned off. If I wait more than a few second (like a minute), the systems seems to reset and returns to normal COLD A/C to both sides vents for mile before it may do it again!

If u have access to a good scanner tool it will show the code for a blend door or any other hvac issues. Mine has the same issue code B2267 for the right side blend circuit fault

*** UPDATE *** (Remember, I have DUAL CLIMATE CONTROL and that I FOUND NO BROKEN TEETH in the replaced passenger side motor!).
The problem moved to the drivers side only. I replaced it and issue RESOLVED. There were NO broken or missing teeth in it as well, BUT.. I noticed BOTH removed units were in mid, (half open/closed position and the NEW units were delivered 45 degrees off from them). The OLD units were not in proper position OR out of time with the computer control! (Don't ask me how, but I assume the tiny 6 electrical fingers and their corresponding printed circuit tracks were making erratic contact... just my guess!). See the little square hole in the shaft of a NEW unit! This is how they come. The removed units were 45 degrees offset from this. To install the new ones, you have to rotate the unit 45 degrees to the side, insert the white shaft (it will only go in one way, when aligned) and then rotate 45 degrees to line up the 4 screw holes. You can feel it turn the blend doors as you do this. It has been a week or so and my DUAL air now works properly!

I had this same issue and code in the HVAC module in my '07 Premier. Interesting to see that it is purportedly caused by the actuator. My Mountaineer had mice in it, I figured they had damaged some wiring and caused this problem.
I sold it without disclosing this issue.

Yes. Also I replaced the blend door actuator about 8 times. I bought parts from Amazon, orally and Autozone and I kept returning them as they would make the most annoying buzzing sound. On the 9th attempt I ordered part from rockauto.com and PROBLEM SOLVED
