I saw on this site several months ago someone who had pics of a 95-97X with dual flowmaster exhausts that were mounted side by side. I want to do the same but need the pics to take to the exhaust shop. I have tried searching the site but with negative results.

Please Help!

Thanks.

dual exhaust flowmaster 40 question

Well, noone has responded to my first question and I have another one as well!!!

Do I have to buy (2) flowmaster mufflers to fit the (2) outputs out of my catalitic converter or can I use a "Y" pipe to bring the (2) back to one and use a flowmaster muffler with (1) input and (2) outputs to get a dual exhaust?

I hope I didn't confuse anyone...

I have one muffler with a dual exit and single input. I didn't change the cat. b/c it seems just as good as the aftermarket. You should be able to just go to a good shop and tell them what you want and they'll do it. I went to about 3 shops before i found someone who said I had enough room for the other exit.

True duals on a 5.0 will give a slight higher horsepower gain over the single in, dual out. You will lose torque though with the true duals I believe. I know for a fact the trade off isn't worth true duals on a V6, but with yours it may be different.

I have dual Flows on my 99 XLT. I also have pics of the vihicle you were talking about saved on my computer from when I was looking to do this job as well. I can email the pics to you if you like. I would recomend a dual in dual out or use 2 center in center out mufflers. I have standard 40 delta flows welded in vertically on mine and they hang down a little below the frame. Mines awd, but I don't take it offroad, have it just for snow. If you need any pics just reply and I'll get your email and send em to you.

I have the true dual setup.
Basically they cut part of the heat shield under your truck, then weld in two flowmaster 40s next to each other, set vertically. It's pretty straight forward, but make sure that they put the exhaust pipe coming out the driver side high or not near the diffy because I went four wheeling and it got a little crushed. I don't worry about how low the mufflers are because I don't think that they're lower than the frame... and the cats hang down lower than the mufflers for sure.

E-mail address, exhaust pipes and tips

Thanks guys for the info. Machman 706 please send the pics to JohnstonMA@usfk.korea.army.mil and runnershigh26@hotmail.com.

I was also wondering what size pipe to go with: my exhaust is 2 1/4 and I was thinking 2 1/2 or maybe 3". What do you guys think? Also, regardless of what size pipes I use I'm going to get 3" wide, 18" tips. Where is the best place to pick these up at?

Thanks again.

OK, I'm thinking about going with one of two flowmaster 40 dual exhaust options: (This is based on 2 openings coming out of my catalytic converter)

1) Single input/dual output flowmaster 40 into 2 1/2" pipes with 3" tips. This would require running a "Y" split into the flowmaster from my catalytic converter which I think can be done???

2) Dual (2) flowmasters (single input/single output) into 3" pipes with 3" tips. Would this reduce power/torque? The flowmasters would be mounted side by side.

Thanks.

The second setup is gonna cost you about 200 more plus you have the risk of losing power instead of gaining. But if you want it to be really loud thats the setup you want. With the single muffler it sounds great while accelerating and isn't loud while crusing at 55

mjjohnston, you have mail.

could i get pics too please?

jssong, whats your email?

jssong, you have mail. Also you should have 2 messages w/a total of like 6 or 7 pics between the two messages. I got a mail delivery error saying the attachment was too large. If you can't open it or don't recieve them, let me know. machman706@hotmail.com or ben@mail.applog.com

isnt that rtstorks truck? or are you rtstork?

They are pictures from different vehicles with dual exhaust from this site. As stated above, they were pictures I saved to my computer when I was looking into getting my flowmasters put on. The one may be rtstork, some were off of lowdpypes and rocket's trucks. If I can get my sister's digital camera I can email pics of my setup if needed.
