Well, I just got back from ordering my muffler. I ordered it from a local performance shop that carried an identical one to a Flowmaster 40 series. Single in, Dual out. Saved 10 bucks, and the only difference I could see was the absence of a Flowmaster name stamped in it. So I figured what the heck and got it. Got my tips too. Nothing special. I'm gonna setup my appointment for next monday I think with the Exhaust shop.

I would like to thank 98Fordx24 for the pics. The guy said it was impossible until I showed him then, then DUH! I guess I can do it:rolleyes:. Thanks!

Glad my pics helped. Post pics of yours when you get it done.

Wahoo! Got the muffler and the tips today:D It goes in next friday to get the pipe bent up and everything installed. Here's a real quick(and bad) shot of the muffler with the tips on it. They don't make an offset one in the type, so the center will have to do.

Duals are here!

Got them put on Friday. Boy do they sound good! Sounding even better as it gets burnt in. I wanted them on the outside of the frame, but the shop said it was "impossible". So watever, they still look pretty mean. Did I mention that they sound really good? I'll get a couple sound clips up here sometime, until then pics will have to do!

BTW- got my Explorer4x4 stickers put on too:D

I just had a flowmaster 40 put on Sat. mines only a single out though. Mine comes straight out the back OUTSIDE the frame (impossible?). I would love to post pics but my damn digital camera is at work as i forgot it. :(

I don't think that it was the passanger side that was the troublesome part. The driver side is the one with the space limitations, gas tank, numerous brake lines and such. I do believe that I forgot to mention that for the past three days my e-brake cable has been melting to it. The guy fixed it up with a hose clamp tonite:rolleyes:

looks great todd.

did you get a big increase in throttle response or anything? I really want duals but i always hear crap oh you can tget duals on the v6 you'll have no back pressure. Just curious if that was all BS or not. Hehe i just want the sound and the look anyway, and that looks sweet

Todd.... what did you pay all together for your exhaust and installation? One of my friends has a ranger.... he kept the stock muffler, but got 2 pipes coming from it. Its kinda half-a$$ed, but it sounds sweet. He only paid 50 bucks for it.

Uhh, also going to melt your spare man. I do custom exhaust every day at work. that is decent but the spare is a problem. and there is no way you could put the drivers side outside the frame.

where do you do the custom stuff at work? i live near philly and want to get some duals at some point...maybe you could be of some help if i ever do it

IMO, That backpressure crap is BS to an extent. It has 100% better throttle response. I live in a very hilly area, because of that I never use OD. Running it today up some long steep hills, no problem! I could accelerate w/o the torque converter unlocking, or it popping out of 3rd. My friend and I did a little cheesy race the other day, he's got the OHC, and I hung with him pretty well. I was really suprised. Its fun now going threw town and everyone looks at you! And you should see the looks of other driving Explorers(whether it be, "Whats that awful sound" or "God, does that sound awsome!")

Muffler, Tips, and Piping came in at about $275.

Break-Down-
Muffler- Flowmaster 40 Series- $70
Tips-$30
Piping, labor, bending and such- $175

The pipe looks closer to the spare in the pics but its actually not. Theres plenty of room between the two and the guy who did it was very reputable. We've run duals on our Z71 for 5 years and they're that close too and we've had zero problems.

Getting it out the drivers side is not impossible. You'll have to ask 98FordX24 how they did it, but its done on his. And he's lowered too!

Thanks for the complements!

I live around Pittsburgh, But around the end of July beginning of August, I'll be in the Philly area for a long weekend visiting my sis. Maybe we could make plans to meet up or something.

275 seems high, but I guess they get you on the labor...... Nice exhaust:thumbsup:

Running the pipe outside the frame on the drivers side is easy. Maybe not for a sport tho.

I'm beginning to think that my exhaust guy didn't give a crap. Unless there is alot less space on a sport. But I thought that the increased size of the fuel tank of 4 doors took up the extra space on the drivers side?
