Dumb Question

Ok please dont flame me, I just bought a 97 explorer sport 2dr. How can I tell if the 4.0 motor thats in it is a OHV or a SOHC?

if its manual its an OHV, if its an automatic its SOHC for that year. You can also look at the motor and if the the intake hose comes out at an angle its SOHC, and if it comes out straight and makes a right angle to the left its the OHV.

Mine has a plastic manifold that has a 4.0 stamp on it yea it lools like that so its a OHV thanks
