On a SOHC 4x4 will/does a transmission rebuild require/entail and/or necessitate a transfer case fluid change? Methinks yes, as dropping the transmission requires separating the two, hence, loss of fluid from both.
I'd rather ask a dumb question and get it answered than not ask the question and, in fact, BE dumb.

You shouldn't loose any fluid separating the two, and if you do, you did it wrong. While it will not make a fluid change necessary for either the transmission or the transfer case, it's probably a good idea to do so anyway while you have them out, as it's a whole heck of a lot easier to change/fill the fluid IMHO.

But if you are rebuilding the transmission, yes, a fluid change should probably be done...

5Spd,
I have subsequently found out that separating the two does not REQUIRE that the transfer case fluid be changed. I understand that is it a good it idea to do so as its a lot easier to get at, it is not a requirement when dropping the trans.
Thanks!
