today at my auto class i sawed off the stock muffler and everything that is after it(tailpipe, resonator). i have a 40 series flow to put on it but i dont want to put tailpipes on after it becasue then its much louder. is it illegal to run it with no tailpipes. would it fail smog because we need to get the smog checked soon? i like the way it sounds now just tone it a little but with the flows.

your in a auto tech class too. it should still pass but you need a tail pipe for then to stick the sniffer in. its not illigal in WA state. i dont know about CA. good luck

yea mine is high school class. couldnt they put the sniffer(?) in the outlet of the flowmaster?

the lenght of your pipe dosent matter for emmisions...but i know in nj, you need at least 5 inches past the last passenge compartment.

they could, but i don't think they are going to crawl under your truck to put it in. my bet is that when they hear that it is louder then stock with no tailpipe they will not even think to look and just right it off as a fail due to falty equipment. i dont know for sure though i dont work at the testing place.

i have a cherrybomb with a turndown and i passed smog just find, just tell them where your muffler is, the sniffer went in there fine and everything. i just used a turndown from autozone. it was like 5 bucks. my muffler is 1-2 inches from the cat and nothin after that. you sjould be fine.

that is good to know i always thought they were lazy i will have to do that

thanks. (newbie)what exactly is a turndown? just like a tip but instead of putting it on the tailpipe just put it on the outlet of the flow?

wouldent it kick ass if the explorers came with stacks?

lol yeah i always like the corvett side pipes that go the length of the car. can you imagine climbing out in july and rubing your leg on those things.

I live in a farm town so there are about 600 98 cummins pickups. just about every one of those things has dual crome stacks. at least on the X if it has dual 6" stacks you will know it is true dual. if you run them through the cab you wont get cold in the winter

yeah a down spout it just a piece of bent pipe that points down.

jc whiteny sells sidepipe kits they have built in glass packs... with the right amount of lift they can be a real (in ur face exhaust) to all the lowriders....civics.....

so what's the point of getting it then?

to burn the **** out of your leg

im talking about the turndown

i dont know better down then up i guess. OH i know. so when you are on dirt and you rev the engine dust flys everywhare.

it just gives it a finished look

That is what it is going to resemble. It could be a 90* turn or a 60*.

i wouldn't pay over 10 bucks for one. if you have a autozone around you just go there.

so it is strictly for looks, why get one then if nobody sees the underside of my x?

actually its for those who cut after the muffler so you dont melt wires or start an underbody fire ...so ita actualy a safty feature..plus it looks less rigged together.
