I found the German E-code replacement lamps for our 1994-99 explorers. They are fluted glass, that look just like ours now, but the beam pattern is a lot better!!! The only problem is the cost! They come with motorized auto leveling systems and to replace both sets it's £263.66 or about 460.00US

Headlamp RH LHD

- Headlamp LH LHD

Delivery

Total Cost: £263.66

I've examined a pair of German e-Code lamps recently and I have a few problems with the above statements:

1. (Minor) The 1995 through 2001 Explorers use the same headlamps, not 1994 - 1999. Also at least one year of Mountaineer.

2. The lenses I've seen were definitely fluted plastic, not glass.

3. There is no auto-leveling mechanism.

4. Although this may be perfectly correct, I'd be suspicious of any price for German e-code lamps quoted in pounds. The lamps in the UK are for left hand rule of road, not right hand rule of road as on the continent and in the U.S.

BTW, these lamps use H-4 bulbs. The larger electrical contact makes it feasible to use an over-voltage bulb with less fear of melting the connectors.

Perhaps one of our Euro contributors cound go outside, check their headlamps, and confirm.

Just for grins, where did this price information come from?

Here's my info

I spoke with a UK dealer, a Mr. Trevor Porter at fordUKparts.com ~ "Trevor Porter" <t.porter@shaw.ca> ~ "All European Explorer models at this year range and listed with Electrical levelling."

also......

Also they were listed "E-12" which is export to Germany, their standard is glass. Yes its still fluted. From what I was told there are plastic E-code lamps.

Different countries have difference e-codes, and germany is a right-hand-drive Country.

If the info. I have suplied to you is wrong, I'm sorry! Just passing along my findings thus far.

You sir are right about the H-4 bulbs!!!! :p

Also.... How do you post a pic, they also sent me a diagram! I posted to confirm/check the infomation didn't want to start are debate!!! :( Also can you share your info, I'm still looking into this!

can't help but point out that they are gonna cost more in the end than my mountaineer conversion... and half of the hid conversion.

The ones I just rechecked are marked E13, which is Luxembourg. Germany is actually E1. I show that E12 is Austria. See the key at the bottom of page 4 at:

Keep up the good work. I've been chasing this one for almost three years.

Have two Hella 55/100 H-4s waiting. One of the lamps I got was missing the spring bulb holder and rubber boot.

You have two choices:

1. Become an Elite Explorer and you can post directly, or

2. Store the image at another site on the web and post a link here.

If you'll email me the diagram as a file attachment to:

edlmann@earthlink.net

I can store it at Yahoo and post a link.

Did you get the scan?

I think I solved the problem, just ordered a Infiniti G35 coupe today(finally got the price I wanted). I hope the OEM lights are better on this car :)

I'm keeping my Sport, a good winter commuter!

You suck! I love the G35!!

THAT GUY WAS WRONG!!!! GHRRRR!!!!

 GHRRRRR

I spoke with a rep. at my out dealer and he got me a phone number with a production manager at FORD. Later I was able to talk to a guy that seemed to know what he was talking about. Bill Murphy? I think his name was.....

1. There is no electronic leveling system, and there never was one planned.
2. All e-code Explorer lamps are plastic, no glass ones at all.

One of the things he was able to tell me was the E-code version of our lights aren't worth the cost. Their beam pattern isn't much better than DOT. Little different pattern. A fuzzy version of this: ___/___/ <--- It doesn't have his find of pattern/cutoff more like DOT and the smae hot spots. He said they had trouble with the plastic lens.

The only thing he suggested was the mounty. mod. which is also expensive! :(

Lastly: Is there a Euro version of the Mounty???
