I'm in desperate need of a picture or diagram that shows where the earthing/grounding points are on the explorer. I've got an earth/ground fault and it's driving me insane.

my front right side light won't come on
when i indicate right, my boot lock activates
if I leave the fuse in the fuse box all the right hand side indicators stay on
my rear right light comes on when i indicate right
when i indicate right, the clock flashes too.

any suggestions?

thanks

Si

i know theres one under the body of the drivers side from the main beam to body, checked all the plugs on the headlights?

Yeah the plugs are all fine, it's got to be a bad earth, I just don't know where all the earth points are for me to have a look.

if someone has a diagram showing where all the earth points are I'd be so grateful.

Thanks

Si

Sorry, can't help with a diagram, but until you get one have you tried running a temporary earth from each item in turn to see if you can get it working OK. If so, should be able to make it a permanent earth and not bother with the old earth point. I would start at the non-working front right sidelight which seems the logical place. One bad earthed item can cause so many problems which at the time seem unrelated. Good luck.

Si, have you tried taking the bulbs out of the rear lights and then check that all the other problems are still there/gone?
My rear right brake light blew. When I came to change it, I found the base of the bulb full of corrosion. Although it didn't have any affect on my car, it can cause a temporary short which can affect the other bulbs.
By the way, just out of interest, mine was a normal type bulb and not one of the special plug in type found on some Ex's.
Kev,

I had a strange one the other week..........BOTH yes both brake lights went out and refused to work....only the third one was working- I checked the bulbs both good, then I cleaned the contacts on the bulbs and the contacts on the board and mount- worked fine ever since!

Thanks rich, but that's still not quite what I'm after, I just need to know where all the earth points are so I can check them.

It's got worse since I've replaced the loom in the boot!

Si
