Has anyone ever used or had experience with an Earthquake Magma 15" Subwoofer? What did you think of it? Do you recommend ported or sealed boxes?......I had originally purchased (1) 15" CV Stroker and FedEx damaged it in delivery...so now I ordered a 15" Magma. Im going to put it in next week over spring break...any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.:D

it's a great subwoofer. i only used it in a sealed enclosure. it hits really hard, and the SQ is much better than a CV Stroker. it's also more efficient. good choice

Thanks for the input.....what did you have pushing the sub? Ive fooled with ported boxes and they are definatley louder, but Im not sure about SQ. IS the SQ of this sub decent? Thanks.

earthquake

I guy I work with has two 12inch magma with a orion hcca amp,and you cannot only here him coming down the road you can feel him coming down the road.Kind of a pricey sub isn't it?

i think i had an Orion amp running that subwoofer. pretty sure it was an HCCA. the SQ is really good even though that isnt what the sub is meant for.

I currently run a Pioneer Premier DEH-P630 CD player, JL Audio 6" components, JL Audio 6x9s, a Kicker ZX460, and a Kicker ZR240. The ZR240 has always rocked but I dont know if it is capable of pushing the Magma 15. What do you think? If it wont I need to sell it in a hurry and buy something else! The subs are a bit pricey but Im only using one RIGHT NOW so it wasnt too bad. How much SQ is losted with a ported box in comparison to a sealed box?

88vert......what type of box did you friend use?

Thanks

ported box

I think it was a q-logic ported box, with the pounding it took I was surprised the box did not fall apart,I am not kidding those subs pound.

I know a guy that has an earthquake 15 in a ported enclosure, and man that thing pounds. He has a 1200 watt amp pushing it. The earthquakes are certainly nice subs.

if it's done right, the ported box will have perfect sound quality. in the old days, a lot of people didnt know how to correctly construct and tune a vented enclosure. a good ported/vented enclosure will hit harder than a sealed enclosure and sound just as clear.

What do you mean built right?
I am planning on using 3/4" MDF and using a rectangular port located on the same surface as the sub. Also, do you think a Kicker ZR240 will be capable of pushing this sub? Thanks.

i wouldnt really want to run that subwoofer with that kicker amp.
the Magma 15 has dual 3 ohm voice coils. so if you wire it to the Kicker amp at 6 ohms, it'll only but out about 80-100 watts. that's not nearly enough power.
you could try it, but you'll definitely want a more powerful amp. maybe use the kicker to drive some components...

The magma is dual 3ohm and I believe it can be run at 6ohms or 1.5ohms? What do you think of the JBL BP600.1 to push it.......it says it can produce 600w rms @ 1ohm.

i think that amp will do fine. wire it a 1.5 ohms mono. then it'll hit hard.
