I found this adapter kit for fitting 6x9 speakers, thought it would be useful:

cool if it works..... but you may run into clearance problems with the inside fit of the door panels

it says 6X9 to 5X7 hole adapter....

is it just worded wrong, i couldnt find any info or a description.

personally i wouldnt want 6X9s. i have the subs for deep bass, 6X8s for midrange, and component set for midbass and highs. 6X9s might make the midrange "muddy"....

Yeah that turns a 6x9 opening into a 5x7 opening which doesn't make too much sense to me. Why would you go from 6x9 to 5x7?? There is a much larger selection of 6x9 speakers and you can fit a 6.5" speaker in the 6x9 hole so I don't know really what the purpose of that adapter is.

looking at the pic it looks like you could put a 6x9 into a 5x7 hole...that is why it is chaped like that... putting in a flat plate would allow for a 5x7 into a 6x9 spot... but with the shape it ahs it will/should allow fitting of a 6x9 into a 5x7 hole....

They sell these at my local electronics store, Fry's. These are really made by Metra, like all the other adapter plates. That's a little expensive, considering they're $15 right at the normal store.

But yes, they are so you can fit LARGER speakers, the 6x9s into a 5x7 hole. I don't think there would be a reason anyone would want to put a smaller speaker in a larger hole.

I took me a long time to try and read the instructs on through the plastic package, but it wouldn't work unless you got a really shallow 6x9. You're suppose to mount the adapter behind the 5x7 mount, so you lose at least an inch of depth, and then mount the 6x9 behind it. If you tried to do it the other way, the speaker would stick out an inch, and I don't think the 6x9 basket would fit since the adapter immediately starts to shrink to 5x7.

The only place these might work is in the rear area of the Sports.
