I have a 1995 Eddie Bauer, so it has bigger wheels and tires (255/70/16). I am using some Michelin X radial LT's now, and i have no clue what the speed rating for them is. Also, what are some good tires that are fast and grippy, but still mud + snow rating? I get really scared driving over 94 mph on those, cuz i dont know how long they will last. any info will be appreciated.

Are you kidding, 94 mph is beyond the safe limits of any Explorer, regardless of what tire your using.

Brett,

I have a 2000 XLT with the 16" wheels like yours. After ditching the crappy Firestones that came with it, I went with some Big O Big Foot ATs. Now Big O has two different types of Big Foot ATs, the old style, and a newer one called the "Dual Groove". Only the dual groove comes in the stock size (255/70/16). I like mine so far (~ 4K miles on them). Seem good in all conditions and very quiet. I don't know the speed rating, but you gotta love the lifetime warranty that Big O gives them. The big grooves are esp. good at shedding water, so they should be very good in rain (we haven't had much in CO since I got mine in Aug.). I have liked their performance in snow so far, and this was my main concern when I got them. Big O is popular in the West, so you shouldn't have problems finding them.
