I know there’s a hundred threads on this already but I wanna ask anyway. I’m looking to upgrade my 2005 4.6L for some extra get-up power. I’m not trying to build a race machine, I just want some more punch off the line. What are the best places to start that don’t break the bank?

Cold air intake, catback from magnaflow, tune, headers. In that order.

Tune and headers were my best bang for buck upgrades. Don't waste your time with plenum and throttle bodies until you have the above mods.

My all time favorite mod was a 2,500 rpm billet torque converter. But that's big money.

Stay away from aftermarket coils, they don't add anything meaningful, and fail much more frequently than stock Motorcraft ones.

Oh, and if you do a cold air intake, get a dry type filter, the K&N oil filters can and eventually will mess with your MAF sensor. I put amsoil air filters on all of my rigs, great product and well worth the extra $60 or so.
