Hi everyone! This is my first post here, and I managed to stumble upon the site in my search for information regarding an EGR code that my Explorer is kicking out.
In all honesty, I've had a lot of trouble with it since I purchased in in 2007. Within (literally) DAYS of the extended warranty expiring, my Service Engine light came on, displaying an EGR code when I had a diagnostic on it.
About a month later, something crazy happened with the universal joint, and I was forced to remove the drive shaft. After having a mechanic replace the universal joint...the same thing happened within two weeks. Currently, the drive shaft is still out - because I can't afford to be stranded about the time it goes bad again.
Anyway, I'm looking at trying to fix the Explorer, either to sell it, or to keep it (still undecided). I'm not sure how to go about handling the EGR situation, as I see that its apparently a fairly common issue. I'm concerned that if I spend the money to replace it, it will come back on as so many peoples have, and I'll be forced to think about bigger and much more costly repairs.
I am also under the assumption that I can't simply replace the EGR sensor, but that an entirely new sensor module is required. Is this correct?
Does anyone have any ideas, by any chance? As I said above, I know this is a fairly common issue. I've checked the recall list numerous times, and it doesn't appear that they've ever issued one for this particular problem.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks so much!
