I just changed my EGR valve last week, I hope this helps. On the drivers side of your engine compartment look for a pipe wrapped in a heat shield fabric that runs from your exhaust manifold and goes up to your EGR valve. It will have 2 vacuum lines attached to it. The EGR valve itself bolts to the intake manifold area and is easily identified by looking for a round metal piece about 3" in diameter with holes in it. I hope I didn't confuse you but its kinda hard to describe in words, any other questions feel free to ask.
Hey mike I think your right i Have been looking for it for over an hour with no luck.I have been over every sqaure inch of the motor. Thanks alot guys.88vert Brad in Iowa
My X is a 1994, the terrible part about all this is the damn repair manuals don't tell you a thing about the EGR valve or what vehicles even have them.
I have a chilton it does not say nothing about which years have them and which years dont.I think i am going to buy a shop book, little more money tells you alot more. Thanks derek 88vert Brad in Iowa
That makes sense. Ford didn't start putting the EGR on the Explorers until 1993. One less thing for me to replace on mine .
Brad, you said you were trying to trace down a rough idle problem in neutral. Do you have an auto or manual trans? Have you tried cleaning the MAS or IAC? Run a search on those two items and you'll find a ton of info.
Thanks alot mike,I planned on cleaning the mas today,I cleaned the iac yesterday,I know alot about iac from my 89 mustang gt I always had to clean my out on that.My x is a automatic. Thanks alot for all your help Mike.88vert Brad in Iowa
