Hi,
Have a 96 XLY where the electric switches and remote do not lock the drivers door. All other 3 doors and trunk lock and all four doors (including the drivers) and trunk unlock. Same thing with combination entry. I assume it's an actuator needs replacing. Any ideas?? How tough a job?
Thanks

It sounds like you are correct thinking it's a faulty actuator. Should take around .5 hours to replace if you have a big riviter.

if it sounds like the lock is trying to lock when you hit the button, try shooting some wd-40 or similar lube down the side of the lock button that is up top close to the window (can't think of the right word to describe it...hahaha).

sounds like a pretty lame tip, but i was having trouble with my drivers door not unlocking when i hit the keyless or door keypad buttons...sprayed some lube down in there and now everything is fine. i was afraid the actuator was getting weak, but all is good now.

but if it doesn't make any sound at all when you hit the button this tip probably won't work.

faulty lock

You should be able to see if the actuator is not working properly by checking in the brass coloured assembly on the side of the door. Use you key and lock/unlock the door, looking for moving parts. I had a similar problem where the rod that lifted the lock was catching on the guide (laymans description). Unfortunately the assembly is a one piece unit that shouldn't be too hard to replace.

Barring that are you sure the problem is mechanical vs electrical? IE does your key open/lock the door and can you see the lock nub moving on the door sill?

good luck

Can u explain process? Riviter??

thanx

I have the same problem with my passenger door.
Power unlock works, but doesn't lock.
Goes up and down with the key just fine.
Seems to move a little on the down operation.
Anyone know if this is likely to be the "actuator" or something else?
Any help with the procedure to repair/replace.

I've got a similar situation but both front door lock switches don't lock ANY doors, but they unlock fine. However, the rear quarterpanel lock switch locks/unlocks all doors just fine, so i know actuators are not my problem. Also, the keyfob does not lock doors anymore, neither does the exterior keypad.

If you can hear the actuator working in both lock/unlock check for a broken off rivet or bracket in the door jam. If it's ok then often the gear in the actuator is shot and you need to replace the actuator.

Thanks RiverRat, That's what I will do!

My Driver's door will NOT unlock. The button is stuck down. I broke the inside handle. It is difficult to get the door panel off when the door will not open. It's getting old climbing over the console. My next trick is to bash the actuator away from the strikeplate rendering the remote feature useless. It isn't worth a hoot now anyways. Anybody want to stop me before I do real damage and give me a calmer alternative?

Hope this isn't too late. Don't know if you already tried this but if the door is stuck in the lock position sometimes you can force it open by pulling up on the door lock knob. Unscrew the plastic knob and use some vice grips to pull it up.
